WE ARE THE BEAUTIFUL MISTAKE

It rarely takes much effort to find company in Helovia, even in the darkest reaches of night when so many have settled in for the evening. Despite the seemingly vast expanse of the land itself, she'd never been truly alone. As a result, it wasn't a surprise when she saw the shapes of other bodies upon the sandy shore of the Endless Blue (though she is a bit disappointed to find that neither of them are her favorite pirate, Caenan.) Regardless, her approach is one of outward relaxation and ease and as she draws closer, her teal eyes examine them both - quietly and discreetly seeking any reason to distrust them enough to flee to safety. Yet, she finds nothing. Some might see their horns and take that as a completely valid reason to distrust, or even despise, them. Naerys, however, has grown rather attached to several with horns. The basic outward appearance has never been enough to deter the young girl, instead she seeks the less obvious - the aggressive body posture and the potential for subsequent charging or unleashing of angry magic.

But there is no anger of aggression present in the small gathering; only a miniscule amount of tension - one that she'd grown accustomed to in the threshold. A tension, perhaps, shared between strangers. Yet, although the girl approaches in her typical manner - relaxed and friendly, though not overly boisterous - the pale stallion's reaction gives her reason enough to pause. There is no mistaking the surprise she heard in his voice when he spoke. The filly hadn't been prepared for that particular reaction so every ounce of her own surprise and dejection are clear upon her youthful face. "Oh." she breathes, her response quick and unfiltered. "I'm sorry, I..." she begins, her voice soft and only slightly flustered despite the awkwardness of her current situation. And suddenly the girl didn't know how to finish the thought; a predicament she'd never faced before in her short life. What could she say? 'I was hoping for some company'? Or maybe, 'I couldn't sleep'? But then, she'd only just met them, so what did they care to know about her personal habits? Over-sharing could be just as much a social deterrent as outright rude or cold behavior.

Instead she simply allowed her statement to fade, occasionally shuffling her hooves amongst the sand and passionflowers beneath her. Her teal eyes watch as he shares a look with the other unicorn mare and in that moment she contemplates removing herself from their company. She almost does, except the pale slender one is speaking again and his question leaves her glued to the spot. And cringing. Well, shit. Of course they'd ask about her mother (and how she looks forward to the day they'd stop asking). The mare, hardly older than herself, predominantly echoes his opinion. Exhaling a soft sigh, Naerys glances between them, focusing on his face then hers and finding little more than concern (and, subsequently, some level of kindness). "Well, no. She was asleep when I left but I couldn't sleep and I..." she begins, her voice steadily regaining her confidence. "She won't come looking for me, if that's what you're worried about. At least, she hasn't so far." and every bit of that was true. Alysanne hadn't ever left the Edge to find her on her outings - instead, the doctor waited for her by the borders of the Edge. That was where she'd always been confronted by mother so as long as they didn't insist on escorting her home - they'd be fine. Naerys continues to linger, hopeful that they won't completely reject her company.

SO I DON'T CARE IF IT KILLS ME TONIGHT
