“Go. Find your brother and play.” Her mother had encouraged, though Asavvi would have much rather stayed at her side. The girl liked following her mother throughout the day, watching the Sunspear see to her duties and helping where she could. Perhaps her mother had grown tired of having a little shadow, or at least that was a thought that crossed Asavvi’s mind no matter how untrue it actually was. Though Megaera had only meant to encourage fun in the the filly, Asavvi had taken it as rebuke and so was feeling increasingly sulky as the day moved on.

Nizho was nowhere to be found and Asavvi suspected that he and Mordecai had gone off on some adventure without her. Again. The little stargazer tried not to let it hurt her, she did like to be home after all—home was familiar and quiet and safe—but the unmatched misery of being the odd-one-out was a demon she could not yet vanquish. Nizho loved her, she knew at least that her twin didn’t do it on purpose, but for some reason the girl could not fathom her older sister hated her. It must have been something she had done, but for all her wondering the dark little girl could not think what it could have been.

She moved sedately along the beach, feeling entirely out of place where she should have been right at home. Once in a while she would try and distract herself but chasing a wave or watching one of the sea birds but each little diversion would last only so long and then the burst of energy would dissipate. She’d sigh (Asavvi did far too much sighing for one her age) and move along down the beach.

Storm-eyes found the bodies that roamed the beach ahead, the Sultan’s daughters that she had met so briefly before but at their heels tussled a pair of wolf pups. The Sultana’s daughter hesitated, watching the foursome in their various pursuits (sand-kicking, wrestling, watching) before kicking into a trot.  “Hello, do you mind if I join you?” She mad a valiant effort at brightening her voice despite how glum she’d been feeling; perhaps she’d be able to make friends, they weren’t so far off in age after all. She stopped when she reached them, smiling at the pair of dun girls before glancing at the pups. “Are these your companions?”
