It was time. She could feel it in every step she made, breath growing ragged from fatigue and eyes fluttering open and shut almost deliriously. Her steps were slow yet determined, trudging in the deep snow that Frostfall had bestowed upon them this year. Before she could carry forward anymore a shot of pain coursed through her abdomen, causing a groan to escape her and for her body to finally collapse. Carl was sharing the pain she was, not at all pleased with their predicament, but he powered through so he could remain at December's side. His lips found her sweat-slicked shoulder, and chocolate eyes watched her massive belly heave up and down. Was this all the child's doing? Was it the cause of her pain and suffering in this moment? Suddenly Carl didn't like the thought of December having a baby anymore. His ears flattened, but before he could strike December lashed out first, giving a vicious snap to his side and baring her ivories fiercely. It was nothing compared to the cramping in her sides, so it barely tickled the companion, but he backed off, resorting to simply laying by her side and grooming her neck.
Her breathing became more labored, her teeth grinding rigidly against each other, and before she could stop herself a wail escaped her smoky lips. This was the worst pain she had felt in her life, and she didn't know how much she could take of it. She needed him, he had to be here. He could ease the pain and bring her comfort in his harsh time. Her eyes opened only slightly to look at Carl, who immediately knew what he had to do next. Struggling in the thick snow around him he finally managed to stand, before bursting off in the direction they had come in search of Miykael. Despite her yearning for her lover the babe would not wait; they wanted out right now. Sucking in a sharp breath she heaved, screaming as she did so from the sudden shot of agony. Gods did this hurt. So much. Why did she want to have a baby again? With each heave came another scream, her gasping evident of just how much work it truly was. But before long it ended, a new warmth beside her covered in mucus and steam rising from it.
Her body began to move on autopilot by then, reaching forward to look at the bundle and snipping away the sac effortlessly. She worked as if she had done it a thousand times, so sure in her movements as she finally freed the foal from the clutches of afterbirth. Her tongue wasted no time in grooming the child, cleaning every ounce of her fluids off of babe so she could see what they looked like. A girl, a sweet little girl was who she was; with coloring she certainly didn't expect to come from her or Miykael. She was a beautiful bay, it splashing against a white canvas with gold accents around her legs. She had her father's leg barring, and even a unique tint of gold around her eyes. She couldn't see the color yet, but she knew nonetheless she would be beautiful. A single tear shed down her ivory cheek, and soon her lips found themselves kissing the girl's soft body. She was hers; all hers, and now that she had her nothing in this world could take her away.
"Oh how much I love you," she breathed softly into the babe's ear, closing her eyes and savoring her scent that would forever be embedded in her mind. Her tongue worked to clean her once again, working swiftly so that she wouldn't get too cold in this weather. She wouldn't be able to stay here for long, not with the snow continuing to fall, but she couldn't help but feel blessed that the best thing to happen in her life should arrive here in her favorite place.
