SEREN

Forest had always been calming for her. The feeling of the world bearing in around her, close and comforting, drawing shadow over her and quelling the light upon her hide brought the sensation of calm with it. In the caves she had been too bright, unable to hide, but here she remains. Seren, mare of the Rift, child born of Nocturne and changed by a terrible demon, wandered the forest this evening, beneath a moonlit sky.

Though it had been a jungle, a tight forest of winding vines and flora that had spread out before her where her life had been abruptly altered, it had been a forest she had spent her time recovering in; both after fleeing the terror of the demon and then here, in Helovia, after the beast. After the pain. After running in fear and never looking back.

Here she felt calmer. Wrapped in foliage, shadows hiding her, despite the light that filtered down and shone upon her. Her coat, so peculiar and strange in this world she lived in, stood out even here, though Seren had managed to pass from sight before. Hidden, unseen. No voice worth adding to the others, no fight left in her. Perhaps there was a segment of her, tucked away in the corner, that was her.

That was Remi. Remi was locked away, unable to get out. Seren was in her place.

Seren stood though, coming to a halt before she came to the clearing with the water, before the ominous red glow.

Blood ran red, but not the God.

It is past Seren, let it go and take the step.

She takes a deep breath, stepping forward – and all at once the red reminds her of a figure, rising unbiddon in her memory. She remembers him, and she remembered the strange feeling of calm, of being able to speak without fear, that had been felt around him. The red triggered this, the glow of the blood red rocks at the bottom of the basin of the forest.

Seren turned her head away, letting that memory slip away; she had wandered hidden and lost, far away from anything she knew. Yet here she remains, standing with a hind leg resting gently, and her good eye calm, relaxed – while fear preyed in her mind, lurking, waiting.

Fear was never far behind, and she knew this.

Yet she remained here, in these dark woods, still feeling oddly comforted... and in memory of other moments, in the time that has past, in this world and those beyond it.
