Merialeth Merialeth had quietly approached her friend from behind. As she did with most things, she had seen potential for a game in how Tristan had not noticed her and in how closely he stood to the water. Like most young she knew how terribly cold the water would be for them both but she would be numb to that until after their play. A mischievous grin curled her upper lip as she paused her approach whenever the wind stopped tussling the nearby branches of a tree. The girl was moving whenever the wind and branches made noise and was using them for cover. He would be so surprised! "Nnn--" her brow furrowed and her tongue traced the shape of her lips as the girl tried to figure out how to finish the word, "oo--" So close. "tt." Noot. 'Noot' was Merialeth's first step towards speaking words. It was a clumsy attempt and it sounded silly but Merialeth's heart soared with the wings that her shoulders lacked. Cracking one eye open to peek at Tristan the girl watched to see if he had understood her. He was not nasty. Nor was he a freak. Merialeth had been so determined to try to rid him of such a thought that she had ripped and tore at whatever thing it was that bound her tongue. Tristan needed to know that he saw himself all wrong. He was good enough to be her friend, after all. The New Flower |
