Comparatively speaking, Frostfall this year wasn't nearly as bad as it had been the year before. Even so, the biting winds that frequent the Edge are enough to drive her south - towards the only place she knew that could warm the chill and stiffness from her bones. Helovia's heart. To be fair, it wasn't that long ago that she was here. After stumbling across the gathering and that strange yet grumpy bird-like creature, she chose to linger nearby - soaking up all the warmth she could before returning home.

At least, that had been her initial intent.

But that was before Petyr swooped by her and circled around her to tug at her mane before disappearing down the mouth of the cave. The vivid green bird wanted her to follow him and though that generally means he's found something worthy of her attention, she hesitates at the mouth of the cave and peers into the darkness below. She wants to be more cautious, more careful with her fragile life for her mother's sake but the pull of her curiosity is strong; strong enough to override any trace of caution lingering in her mind. Yet as she stands in her temporary limbo, she can feel Petyr's tug on her once more through their shared mental connection. Only this time he doesn't bother to attempt to physically find her. He doesn't need to because this time she complies to his demands.

Naerys exhales softly, the breath a mere feather-light whisper against the warmer Frostfall air hanging over Helovia's heart. Then, with feathered wings folded and daintily tucked against her sides, she slips into the darkness of the caves beneath the surface. Once below, the girl pauses again but only long enough to allow her eyes to adjust to the change. "Petyr?" she questions while her teal gaze narrows in a vain attempt to combat the darkness. But he doesn't respond and as her vision adjusts, she quickly understands why. Petyr is not waiting in the first room but rather somewhere deeper in the expansive cave system.

And he isn't about to leave whatever he's found to show her the way.

Resisting the urge to roll her eyes, she snorts derisively before proceeding forward on long, slender legs that have only just lost the knobby-kneed appearance of foal-hood. Soon, she'd begin to fill out into a more womanly shape and Goddess only knows what will happen then (except for the increase in trust, responsibility, and new tasks for her to focus on - all she's ever wanted since she turned one). Naerys moves forward with a sense of purpose though she slows as she arrives at each room. There was the Sanctuary first but Petyr hadn't been there. Next came the room with the wall but she find that it, too, was empty. And then the waterfall room, which she also found void of the familiar green bird. But as she pulls into the glowing room, her teal eyes quickly find his small form. He turns his head to look at her with his pale, nearly white eyes and she'd been expecting his usual bird vocals - some sort of whistle or squawking sound to attempt to pull her closer. What she received instead almost made her jump.

'Prit-tee' his voice is clear in her mind, oddly adult and tinged with a husky sort of breathy quality. It isn't overly deep, very different from the King's voice and her father's, but the most startling is the childish quality of the single spoken word in that voice. The two simply didn't match up but she knew that it was him and that he had somehow spoken to her - and had it really been strictly in her mind? Petyr returned his attention to the object he held tightly in his claws, unperturbed by Naerys' reaction. In fact, he was almost delighted by the notion that he could startle her to that degree. It left him feeling rather mischievous and, oddly, proud.

When no more words sounded - either in her head or bouncing around off the cave walls - Naerys gently shook her head. "You...you can talk?" she asks, bewildered yet excited, as she walks to Petyr's side. But the question seems to fall on deaf ears and, within seconds, as her teal eyes fall to the shiny dagger that he'd been protecting her question didn't even matter anymore. Lowering her muzzle towards the larger bladed end, she hovers just above the surface, her warm breath fogging the steel. "It is pretty. I wonder what it's doing down here..." But Naerys' voice trails off as she continues her examination of the medium dagger - still shiny and silver-toned despite the location. Petyr continues to perch on the dagger's grey leather grip, his pale eyes examining his bonded's face.

Oh, what a pretty shiny Petyr has discovered!
