then he forgot just what it felt like,
to feel his bones burning inside
She had abandoned the Sultana and her false god, not wanting to associate with an impostor, fearing that the gods of her home would smite her for such crimes against them. So her questions remained unanswered and her unmoved cerulean features kept clean of emotion or hints of her internal turmoil. She wanted to go back, to return to her nantli and weep that she had failed her— that he had turned tail and ran because she had forgotten her honour in the face of an alien land, a place she knows she does not belong. Her nantli may have been assimilated to this culture, to its gods and its people— but she, a babe, was still intimidated by the unfamiliarity. She spoke snippets of their language, knew little of their politics, of their gods and beliefs, knew barren handfuls of the land's history.

The ichpochtli kept quiet, her fears unspoken as she explored the vastness of Helovia. There were new lands, lands she had never before heard of, that nantli had forgotten to mention. She stumbled upon one of them, a land thrumming with stale power— ancient magic that rattled her bones and ruffled her feathers. It was no good, this earth beneath her feet, it was tainted and sick with disease. The water ran red, thick crimson like blood cascading over blackened rocks, etched with battles long past. Aureate eyes follow the tremors of earth, body quaking from the reverberations beneath her hooves.

A mountain moved. He thundered on stark white hooves, carrying a beastly onyx mass that made her audibly gasp, never before having laid her eyes on something so gargantuan. "Tepetl," she whispers, golden eyes catching the itzcuintli in pursuit of the black mountain. Nantli failed to mention here that there were men bigger than boulders, that she was going to be a frail and small ichpochtli compared to the beasts that roamed here. In Arto no such creatures existed, no men or women towered far above her on legs thicker than the trunks of trees— they were all of similar stature, all at level heights with little variation. So why here— why did the tepetl roam here?

— crashed bc why not (also will get better i promise)
tepetl = mountain, itzcuintli = dog,
