Själ The princess had never seen the ocean before. Waves crashed angrily against the sands beneath her hooves, a dull grey that reflected the blanketing clouds in the sky. The girl stared out to sea, her face unreadable, the wind whipping her mane about her face. The flicks of hair against her nape stung, but she almost welcomed it - at least it was something different to feel, and it had been some time since she had felt anything except boredom. She was watching a storm pass by over the turbulent waters; periodically, lightning would crack from the clouds and into the ocean and a soft roll of thunder would wash over her. It was chillingly beautiful, in its way, and the girl wished that she could harness the energy of the storm for her own. How would it feel to hold the ability to bring death and chaos at her hooves, to be the wielder of destiny for whatever unsuspecting soul she passed over? How would it feel to be in control, for once, free to do as she pleased without thought or reason or consequence? But the storm wasn't truly free, was it? It was bound by the patterns of the wind, the shape of the shoreline, pushed and prodded this way and that by whatever new climate it came to. No, if she wanted power, she wanted it to be her own. Ansgar sat silently by the princess's hooves, watching the frothing waves. She could not recall her bonded ever having been in so black a mood, so restless, so powerless. Worse, there was no reason for it, no trigger that had been pulled to send her ricocheting into darkness. The griffin was silent, almost pouting, devoid of her usually playful spirit. Själ was glad: had the cat-bird tried to cheer her, she would have done little but glower. Why the fuck did I come back? she asked through the bond. Ansgar did not deign to answer. "Talk." --Ansgar.--  |
