blood coursing in the veins of the moon.
While Mesec was still figuring out what to do, distractions became an everyday battle - and endless search for something else to focus on beyond the cloud of despair that had settled on his mind. The list of things that he couldn’t do stretched out before him, as long as the distance he kept between himself and all those that he loved. Even finding Gaucho, Ampere, and Zero to apologize to them would be far too hazardous - afraid that speaking of the events would cause something else to happen. He wished he knew where Ampere was, hoped she had run and returned home to her family, escaping the chill of Frostfall in the Throat.

No, he couldn’t go back there, couldn’t seek anyone out, until he figured out a way to control it - not until he could break this seemingly endless cycle as the memories haunted him whether he was awake or asleep. He had been keeping himself exhausted so that there would be no strength in him to cause damage if the warg did appear, but a few days ago it had been too much and he had collapsed into a fitful sleep - waking in a rage from the nightmares, from the memories, and bursting into that warg barely before his eyes were even open.

There had to be an end to it somehow. It haunted him, no matter where in Helovia he went he knew that he brought danger with him. He couldn’t go find any of his friends out of fear that he would hurt them too.

The uncertainty was enough to keep him away… but not too far. Lucius kept an eye from the sky, steering Mesec away from anyone else they might encounter as they travelled further north. Perhaps here it would be less likely for them to run into anyone else, while the cold settled in and chilled their bodies - giving them both something else to think about aside from the warg and when it might appear.

Snow was beginning to fall heavier as they moved into the Steppe, so they made their way toward the ornate rock formations. Twin drops of jet and silver in the world of white and grey, welcoming the relief that the shelter brought. As Mesec came to stand beneath the formation, shaking much of the snow from his wings as he did, Lucius made his way lazily down from the sky - aggravated by the growing intensity of the snow for keeping him from flying.

The demi-god's silver eyes stared blankly back out at the curtain of white before him, letting it lull him into a momentary sense of peace.
