Ki'irha

but in dreams I can hear your name, & in dreams we will meet again

"Thank you," she said, dipping her head respectfully before slipping past him into the shelter. Immediately she felt relief as the refuge blocked out the harsh wind. She shook the snow from her body with a delicate shake, her wind-tossed curls cascading over the slope of her neck. She sighed, the sound soft and content, as she freed herself from the dampness that had only begun to seep into her coat. Eyes fell upon him as a smile landed on her lips, and the girl allowed her gaze to travel over him briefly. He was handsome, crowned with a curved spire, with bottomless eyes pressed into his sculpted skull. Black silk was pulled taught over softly carved muscles, and she couldn't help but notice how some portions of his magnificent coat seemed to glow softly, as if moonlight was permanently embedded into his pelt. Her stormy gaze met his silver, and for a moment she stared, knowing if her eyes lingered she would become lost in his unusual eyes. Pulling her eyes away, she nearly let loose a chuckle at how similar they were, at how when she looked at him, he reminded her of the sky. They seemed to be made from the same fabric, cut from similar yet different pieces of the sky. What fates had brought them together to form a cosmos within these rock walls?

Ki'irha's reflection was cut short at his abrupt change in demeanor. She leaned back on her haunches, ears turning in surprise. She nearly presented her horn, unsure if she had just walked herself into a fight, not knowing if she had triggered a swing in his temperament with her staring. The warmness in her expression evaporated, and she hesitated. Only, she didn't spring to the defensive, because what she saw in his eyes, the way his features curved and his voice wavered, he nearly seemed frightened. She couldn't be sure he wasn't ready to spring, but she forced herself to relax. Ears returned to their attentive peaks, and her expression softened. There was no telling what could cause a spirit to grow to skittish, and he was residing in a rock formation in a frozen desert. Maybe he was a recluse, and found peace in his solitude. "I'm sorry," she murmured, allowing her defenses to fall. The moonlit stallion seemed to shake whatever apprehension he was feeling away, and she took a deep breath. Should it come to it, she would certainly take her leave and brave the storm. He was here first, and she was used to the bitter cold the north harbored. Finally averting her eyes, she looked out into the worsening storm.

She was a general, a brave warrior appointed to her rank due to her skills and prowess. But somehow, for some strange reason she couldn't quite pinpoint, she allowed herself to be free from her armor. It was dangerous, presenting her soft exterior to the stranger. The last time she had shown vulnerability, when she had told Ashamin how she believed she felt... She glanced at Mesec through her lashes for a moment, knowing he wasn't capable of hurting her the way she allowed herself to be broken before while exposed and open and weak. He certainly couldn't fix her, either, but letting her walls collapse was cathartic for her wounded spirit.

The tinkling of the icy flakes falling created a soft song in the background as the celestial pair looked out. She was silent for a moment, allowing only his words to fill the void the storm left. "It's beautiful, how something as powerful as a snowstorm comes with nothing more than a whisper to announce it's presence." They continued to stand for a moment, allowing the world to swallow them as time slipped by. Even in their shared silence, the company was enjoyed in silent reverie.

"It is nice to meet you, Mesec,-" she felt the name on her tongue, let it roll through her lips as she tasted it for the first time, "- even if the circumstances aren't the most ideal." The traces of a laugh escaped her smiling maw. The cobalt mare nearly made up a name, contemplating for a moment whether or not she was willing to share her name with the stag. What would it matter? Helovia was a big place, and the chances of crossing his path again was slim. "I am Ki'irha," she finally decided, offering him a piece of her that was long-forgotten by many. She didn't ask where he was from. She didn't think it mattered. Here, tonight, she was just a wandering woman beside a lost man, and as they allowed their threads to tangle, perhaps it would be enough.

The star girl thought about asking what brought Mesec this far north. It certainly wasn't an ideal vacation getaway. Maybe he was headed towards the Basin? Again, she didn't care about the boring questions, and idle chit chat wasn't really her thing. Instead, she allowed her thoughts to fall upon the zephyr. She had never seen one before, mostly due to her typical avoidance of those with wings. She let a smile touch her lips. "He's beautiful," she murmured, fascinated with the way his iridescent plumage held its own intricate glowing designs. "He must be your companion? It must be nice, knowing you're never alone." She envied the bond shared between the companion and its bonded. To have someone always there, privy to your thoughts and emotions and fears, no matter where you were or what struggles were captured within the heart. Someone who understood.

How could you possibly feel lost if you were never alone?
