With fire to keep us warm, and tools we made from rocks and bones
Gaucho stared out across the tumultuous waves.
Since removing the landbridge, the sea had grown more raucous and uncertain. It was something the dun hadn't anticipated, then then again, it didn't cause him much concern. His wings, and the wings of his species, could easily fly high above the reaching spray of the waves. And for those without wings? The magical bridge created by the Sun God would always shepherd them safely across.
Gaucho inhaled in the salty briny smell.
His fiery wings tightened against his flanks as a rushing warm breeze blew the long tendrils of his oddly silky mane and tail backwards. In his antlers, Mara nuzzled her smooth head against his brow gently, hissing softly. The snake was happy that Birdsong had blanketed the land, for with it came the warmth that allowed her cold-blooded body to move more freely. Vorsa, who was always warm regardless of the weather, sat perched on Gaucho's withers, taking a name. She nearly blended into the fire that constantly burned along his wings, and like those flames, the ones that radiated from her body provided no discomfort to the dun.
Ampere had gone, and Sohalia had returned.
That too was as unexpected as the turning tides below. Gaucho wasn't necessarily distraught by either change, though it did weigh heavily on his mind. Where had Ampere gone? He had heard from Tae that Zero said that Grusha and Ampere had gone on a secret mission, and while Gaucho assumed the boy had said this merely to comfort his sister, he wondered if there might be some truth in it. After all, Ampere was closest with Zero, perhaps he did know something Gaucho didn't...
But for now, she was gone. And that's all he knew for sure.
