Aelin

Why does the eye see a thing more clearly in dreams than the imagination when awake?

She'd decided to escape the oncoming rain storm and instead enjoy the calmer weather outside her homeland. Besides it was always much more fun to explore the world outside her homeland. The clouds that hovered above and around her home had soaked her coat, washing most of the sand from her body. Yet once she'd escaped into the sunshine, the water had been absorbed and the odd grains of sand that remained glittered in the sunlight. Meeting new souls was a joy, even if the other soul in question was a particularly grumpy one. After all she'd met a grumpy soul and, if she was being entirely honest, she'd actually become rather fond of the boy. Aelin shook the dark boy from her thoughts, after all, why shouldn't she be out and enjoying the sunshine? She was free to do as she pleased after all. So the girl continued on, soaring through the skies. Eyes closed she enjoyed to feeling of flight and her ability to go where she pleased. Not many shared the same feeling that she did, not many could wonder knowing they had a family at hope who were always there waiting to welcome her home.

It was funny. Her family was the reason she'd begun to venture from The Throat. Mainly in search of her twin. The thought of her still missing brother struck gain pain into her heart. The idea that it was extremely possible that he'd never return home...never return to her. It'd was an extremely hard truth that she'd come to accept.

The sound of splashes and voices echoing off a body of water caught her interest. Looking down from where she was circling above Aelin grinned as she spied two younger boys playing in the waters below her. Their joyous voices reach her and she watched them for a moment above before spiralling down. Her wings navigated and moved her body through the air with graceful ease. When she'd first been learning to fly it'd been awkward and she'd tumbled back to earth quite a few times. Now, with each flight, she'd grown stronger and more confident. Still, she could always use extra lessons...perhaps she'd chase down one of her siblings and badger them with her desire for lessons. Rhoa and Zenobia were usually lurking around the throat, when she got home she'd track one of them down.
Hawke would have been her preference. It was hard for someone to give you lessons if they were still no where to be found.
She was jealous that these boys had each other. Greedy of wanting her relationship with Hawke to return to normal.
Which was part of the reason why the sight of youngsters playing was such a delight to her. Firstly they looked the part of siblings, loving, playing and carefree. Neither was causing the other pain. They were both present in each other's lives, something that the desperately craved.

As her hooves once agin met earth she trotted a meter or two forward before slowing and coming to a complete stop. Watching the boy (who shared quite a few qualities with the boy she'd met at the blood falls), she remained silent for a while. They played, their voices not quite clear enough for her to make out the words they spoke. Their tones were easy to detect, friendly. Brotherly. The pit of her stomach rolled and she blinked away the tears (she did not know if they were tears of anger or sadness) before they had a chance to appear. Shaking the darker cloud away from her dun body she rolled her shoulders and approached the two boys. The rock flying through the air from, seemingly, out of no where brought her to a confused stop. True, the girl had seen many strange things in her short life. Nothing quite beat the flying rock however, that was most definitely in the top ten. Still she was not frightened by these events, more curious. Having a large and powerful family back home most certainly made her a little more confident when approaching strange situations.

They thought it might be fish? Aelin chuckled quietly remembering how when she was this young she'd also enjoyed watching the small things. Fish swimming would have (and honestly still did) brought her delight. Yet she was quite sure the rock had not been sent flying by fish. The boy speaking had hushed his voice and she crept closer still, not wanting to miss out on whatever they were saying. As the dun girl moved closer to the two gathered boys, the more crudely marked body suddenly sprang into action. The girl was so taken aback that she paused in her movements, head tilted to the side and mouth open in shock. The boy turned turned abruptly, wings fanned out from his sides and tail coiled to push his brother face first into the water. Aelin squealed and gasped in shocked mirth, her laughter loud and delighted. As the boy backed up she began to move again, wanting to see the other one emerge from the waters. It actually brought her joy to watch these two playing. Before she could catch him the elder brother charged forward and leapt, wings spread and into the water himself. A childish roar of laughter bubbled up from his chest as he surfaced, damp wings splashing out. She reached the edge of the water and grinned down at the two.

"Boys." She was giggling as she watched them, eyes dancing between the two. "Hello." She called down to them, her delicate voice barely made it through the sound of the boy's laughter.

Dream as if you'll live forever,
Live as if you'll die today.
I guess jealousy's the curse that the struggle inspires.
