For a moment everything stopped. Isopia could hear a buzzing in her ears and felt as though her entire body had just been saturated by cold water. When she blinked, her long eye lashed felt stupidly heavy but also ineffective - it was as if there was a film covering her eyes that blinking wouldn't remove. The feeling of bile rose in her throat and a snarl demanded that it be allowed to part her lips, but Isopia held both feelings back. Her mind raced to the last time this feeling had overtaken her (or at least one very similar): when Kid had revealed that he was a son of Volterra and the product of a one night stand. Her face had shown her disappointment and confusion at this, and the boy had latched onto that response like a shark to blood.

She wouldn't make that mistake again.

Swallowing, Isopia's golden stare turned to the skies, as if regarding the hazy outline of the horizon with speculative interest. The demigoddess realized that she'd already jumped to a conclusion, assuming that Tyrath was the child of Volterra and Aithniel. But with that facial marking, who else could have sired him?

>>You have similar markings<< Hubris interjected poignantly, calming the girl somewhat.

Could it really be a fluke?

Her mind pushed forward, she needed to say something to appear unphased.

"Aithniel is your mother? I suppose that makes me your aunt." She began, forcing her gaze away from the waters to settle on the boy once again. Her face was an emotional mask now revealing none of the inner panic rising in her stomach and throat. "She isn't a goddess, but a demi-goddess." Isopia corrected, not meaning to take away any of the grandeur the boy might ascribe to his dam, only meaning to be precise. "I assume Volterra is your father?" The words breezed from her lips before her mind could calculate their efficacy. And once out, Isopia hurriedly continued on. "You look like him," she qualified with a smile. "That's a very powerful lineage you carry within you. Fire and earth? Powerful indeed." Her words were an attempt at making the boy feel pride for who he was, so that any inclination he might have about the purpose of her questions would be ignored.
