In the days of Plato and Socrates, philosophers were often chastised by having their heads in the clouds. This was a slight meant to imply that their eyes looked too often skywards and where not fixed on anything happening the world - that is, of anything useful or realistic. But there was also a more literal basis of this tale. Once upon a time (don't worry, this is a very short tale I assure you), there was a philosopher with his head in the clouds. As he was walking regarding the stars, he fell into a big pit and therein died. Too bad, so sad. The end. (Told you it was short).

While Ru'in wouldnt' have considered himself a philosopher (though he'd happily don the title of tinkerer or engineer, he was often looking at things, clouds and stars among them.

Today, the mutant boy was studying the way the wind moved through the boughs of the thick evergreens that grew in the deep woods. His magic roughly approximated a shift in energy, that was, he could transfer the potential energy inside of something, so it's kinetic form. But since he wasn't familiar with what amounts of potential energy things held, his attempts at using his magic were clumsy. Rather than trial and error, the boy observed the world in great scrutiny.

As was the case today.

Now, the hole that Larue had created could have been a giant pit with no cover, could have had a hoard of alligators inside waiting, or could have been a portal to another world for all Ru'in knew or noticed. His bi-coloured eyes were studying the trees, and instead of looking where he was going, he merely followed where the boughs parted above him, which allowed him to keep his head tilted all the way back as he moved, so that he wouldn't miss a thing.

But he did.

The giant hole in the ground.

The mutant boy stumbled, his head snapping backwards painfully, as his long three-toed legs scrambled to collect himself. But because gracefulness had never been a pillar of science, it was not a skill Ru'in practiced or prided himself on having. Romina was graceful, and he left that delicate art to her. Thus, he fell to the very bottom, covered in shale and dirt, and took several moments to right himself.

The tusked creature looked around, staring at walls of dirt in a 360 degree circumference around him. There was no expression on Ru'ins mutated features, no sign of distress, fear, or even surprise. It was as if he fell in holes often.

Hole. He thought astutely, and then proceeded to state perfectly still, allowing his body to turn to stone.

Clearly he couldn't climb out of this pit, and there was no one in sight when he was conducting his observations, thus shouting wouldn't help. Best he conserve energy until someone naturally stumbled upon him. So, he let his body begin to turn to stone.

RU'IN USED TURN TO STONE.

These apartment walls are paper thin.
And no one is trying to listen in.
To hear our doubts, hear our whispered shouts: they don't care.
