The next place that Kitty finds fits him like a well-crafted shoe, as it should. The red lining of the falls complement his coat perfectly, and when he bends his delicate neck to drink of its water you can begin to make out faint, burgundy patterns of light flickering along the powerful curve of his neck. He's like a mirror, only not the kind you see yourself in. No, you're not good enough to be reflected in him.

But Kitty takes in the world, sees it all when it sees him and makes it something better. He's like a candy man that way, and you're addicted to his homemade treats. Just a taste, you beg of him. Just one morsel of sugar and you would be satisfied, can't he just give you a sample? Just a look in your direction, a three second locking of eyes before the fact of your death? That would be enough: to be recognized.

Looking on, watching as some child in the distance captures his attention, you know you'll never get even that. He moves towards the filly as if he cares about her, or at least the happenings around her, but you simply know that can't be true, because Kitty can't care about anyone but you. A shock of his hair slips out from between your lips as he moves deftly further from your want. He's always that: leaving.

He isn't leaving the scene, though, even as so many others do. There's a splash and a red flicker as a larger than average fish slides deftly beneath the water's surface, and a patter of hoofbeats as an odd collected gathering departs, but Kitty remains. He approaches the young dark filly from behind and towers over her innocent form. He comes up almost silently behind her, witnessing the same unfolding of life that she does, and snorts when she speaks.

"That's not a whale, little girl," he tells her in a way that some might call matter of fact but you think is fantastically sour. He really does have a candied tongue.

"That's a bird. A right strange one, I'll give you, but certainly more bird than whale." He is confident in his declaration when others might wonder if he should not be. Of course, he knows so much, so you take his words for gospel. You would have operated on the understanding of that feathered little beast being from the sea if he'd told you to, simply because it felt right.

Hope you don't mind me popping in, @Vesper!
