With fire to keep us warm, and tools we made from rocks and bones
Gaucho felt a sharp pain rumble up his chest with the impact; Nyx is far bonier than she appeared. The dun might have wondered if the winter was particularly harsh in the Edge, such that the warrior mare had lost some of her meat and muscle, but his mind was distracted. Although his teeth did not find purchase on her pale skin, the scent of mare was so consuming that it temporarily satisfied the need that tasting her would have also satisfied. Her words cause the briefest smile to stir his dark lips, causing the bone that pierced his muzzle to tremble slightly. He had somehow expected this of her - knew that she would be up for his challenge, and not just because she had asked for it. This was one of the ways in which her similarity to Ampere mattered the most. Her battle lust was what he wanted from her now - needed from her. He saw flashes of Ampere in that spark of her eyes and the amused edge of her voice.
Despite his want for pain, the dun can't help his heavily honed instincts. As a flash of cold races across her skin, the Wildfire dances backwards. He is elegant and quick for one so large, though it has taken years of constant training to get his legs to delicately cross over the way that they do.
Her chest thrusts towards him and for one mouth-watering moment he considers halting and allowing her to embrace him with her shield and her teeth.
But he had never given in to Ampere, had never gone easy, and he would do no such thing with Nyx either. Fire poured from his antlers taking the shape of a great bear. It took Gaucho's place as the dun retreated another pace or so, such that if Nyx continued her assault it would be the bear who would great her, rather than Gaucho's impressively muscled chest. Even so, the point of the bear was more defensive or distraction, rather than an attack. He might have evaded the mare's advances but that didn't mean he was giving up his original idea of keeping this fight close.
Gaucho lunged around his fiery creation, hoping that Nyx had merely balked at it and remained roughly where she was. If not, his long legs would seek to bring himself along her right side, if he could. "Gaucho not have breakfast. He grunted. Once again his teeth sought her flesh, only now it was aimed at the tender skin where her ribs ended and her thickly muscled hip began. Nyx's flesh was an amalgamation of white and grey, but even so, his mind saw Ampere's black and blue. A hungry snarl of desire and rage began deep in his throat, releasing through his dark lips as he aimed his bite. Successful or no, the dun was not stagnant. His blue-striped shoulders aimed to shove her hips aside as he tried to continue down the length of her, hoping to remain close enough to her hindquarters so that she couldn't buck or kick out at him.
"Maybe you be Gaucho's breakfast." He concluded still sounding amused despite the way his body seemed to shake with anger.
In his attempts to push Sohalia from his mind, he succeeded only in reviving thoughts of her. When he thought of Nyx's skin, he saw Ampere. But in seeing Ampere, his mind reminded him why he was. Because she had left and Sohalia had returned.
Just not to him.
Guilt did not tax Gaucho's warrior's brain or heart. The pair were ... 'over' wasn't precisely the right word. Perhaps they had never actually come back together, they had merely re-coupled their love and their passion one last time. And maybe it wasn't even that.
