A shriek, surprised and even a little angered scratches into the air. It makes the gold’s tasseled tail switch low, all the more pleased. Success was a most satisfying feeling, even it did come from merely pulling one on a couple of foals. Then again, these foals had proved they were not exactly mama’s defenseless precious angels anymore either.

The gold was too busy tucking away the cloak to notice the rather sweet heart touching moment of the colt reaching out for the filly. Not that it would have warmed him much. In the ever swinging moods that seemed to roll over him these days, today was more of mellow coldness within, and a dangerous devil outward. A combination of old, and one proved ever so enjoyable and effective. Yet, it had grown so much rarer a sight these past days…

As he tilted his head to speak the earth eyes flashed with gold to see both youths defiant to be caught unawares. It spurred him on, their anger. For it possibly meant he’d touched a rather sore place, or perhaps even better, that they were just as much trouble as their prior little game had hinted. Even so the colt moves to square up, and a brow raised. The colt was indeed bold. It did not go unnoticed that his breath held his chest puffed and his stance had squared. Even as young as he was, the potential and promise was there, for tomorrow. Of the long list of youths the gold had found to keep in touch with, these most certainly were making a name for themselves.

Haldir was decidedly not of the same mindset. His bright eyes, still slightly shivering to see the anger flare in the two who he had just escaped, were watching closely. His antlered head ducked as the pleasant leaping deer upon the beautiful filly’s back morphed and twisted into slithering snakes. His legs commanded him run again, and his nerves caused him to shift to look out from the other side of the gold. From here the colt wasn’t a much better view. Still the sly words of the gold, acting like a thermometer signal some safety here. So the stag collects himself to stand taller, and step out ever slightly.

The girl looks in shock as the gold names what surely must be well known. His grin grows more humored as the filly snides Rexanna. The Laurelin tried to reach back and remember what he could of the mare besides her rather lovely looks. She had been a thief, not a bad one at that, but beyond that he knew rather little. His thoughts were interrupted though by an even more interesting thought. They were left to themselves? Strange, and his mind muses on the causes, yet finds none. “You’re not exactly lacking.” He teases, nodding his head to the still deathly still kit.  Clearly though they didn’t need to hold mama’s hand, though papa’s shoulders might have made the colt’s attempt at threat more….well, threatening.

Then the colt speaks up and the gold humored and smug grin turns rather darker and intrigued. “Indeed…” As it begging the colt to go on. The sudden change was ever curious. He had expected a flying of insults and promises of threats for a ruined game, not an invitation. That was a most curious shift. Where he had expected pride, he instead found an ambitious powerful enough to tame a proud heart humble. A most interesting quality…

“I did.” He answered most matter of factly, nodding with a hint of pride. He was very proud of that trick. It always was a most ironic little thing. For whatever reason, of all a horse’s senses, sight left them perfectly weak to the bone. It can be so strong…and so vulnerable. The next question was not so fun. It was something a seer or other teacher should answer. Even if ma and pa weren’t around, he was a substitute. It was shame he knew so little, when clearly he felt it so articulately. “How did you grow to control the ash cloud?” It was a less humored response, showing how low he considered it.

Yet his crowned head tilts, and tasseled tail pauses with some serious thought of plan. He inhales as he speaks, letting gears click and lock in. “Some magic like your’s takes practice and time “Then he exhales, and the gold coat shimmers and falls away like dust till nothing but the colt’s own reflection was staring back at him. Haldir, finding himself the same height as his would be protector, raises his head. He was not a fan of this, and snorts his discontent at this charade, but it as usual, ignored.   “The more exercised, the more solidly you command, the steadier the hand.” The colt’s own voice, deep with Tembovu’s blood speaks. Yet it was still the golden’s crown (though slightly large for the youthful head) and smirk on his lips. He was showing off of course. And gods he loved it.

He wasn’t usually this much of a show off. Loving to show as well as hoard in the dark his skills, but before two foals with quite a curious ambition he was finding it a rather odd delight to oblige. The gold exhales once more and a bright shimmer of gold dust returns him to the Laurelin. The smug, massive ego, Laurelin. It all was rather amusing, and though he had originally detested the job of teacher, he was finding it rather pleasing proposition.
