The little creature was frightened.

And those surrounding it frightened it more, as told by fresh bouts of wails and tears. And, to be truthful, the painful empathy the militant woman felt for the creature was waning in the face of such blubbering. Akvian children may cry, but they did not carry on like this small deer-like calf did.

Perhaps it was alone for a reason.

Her thoughts were not malicious, they were simply logical. Were this calf a solider, causing as much trouble and ruckus despite so many offers for help, then the soldier would be left behind. They would be costing more resources than potential kills or protection. But this was not a soldier. This was a child.

A loud, harsh snort pushed past her nostrils as she continued to eye those with wings. And, suddenly, her more observant, second glance at those gathered suddenly found Kahelo. “—look for a big ‘ol rock…” the calf was speaking again, its young voice riddled with nasally tears, “…like a goose.”

She blinked once. It was the first time she had blinked since leaving the Falls. A goose shaped rock? Her head swiveled towards Kahelo, then towards the many pegasus present. Part of her wanted to go alongside her grey ward, but she did not. The last time she had been alongside him, they both had shattered their bones, resulting in painful headaches.

So, instead, the seahorse contemplated leaving. There plenty here to aid the small creature—but that was giving up on an assignment. And she had never done so. The first time she had failed a task was when she had come to Helovia…

Shaking her ridged face and flicking her barbed tail, she focused on the calf once again. At least looking for this strange rock would provide some distraction from the sun’s heat. “Is it eastward or westward?” Her throaty voice called strongly from her short distance away from the grouping. Then, realizing that the calf likely didn’t know such things, she continued, “Towards where the sun rises? Or away from it?” Her unblinking, large eyes glanced at the overly zealous fireball in the sky that was the source of all this heat.
