 This may be the farthest you've been from home. You don't miss the Basin exactly, but one dark eye casts over your shoulder every few minutes, as if picking out the road you followed south. Just in case.... You no longer trust Mama to save you if trouble occurs, so you gradually take more and more responsibility for your own welfare. To be lost, far from the Basin, would be the worst... But you try not to worry too much, now. You're exploring, after all! There's an endless amount of stuff multiplying the farther south you go, and it snatches your attention as you walk. Occasionally, it snatches your attention too much and your head hurts and you have to rest. Now is one such occasion. Because traveling is new to you, the concept of pacing oneself is also foreign and pretty much out of reach at the moment. You just scamper about until you get tired, and then you rest. For now, you've found the base of a big tree to rest under, and flopped out on your side, you catch shreds of sleep while the world carries on around you. It's a big world. Sort of frightening. Bits and pieces of it invade your dreams, swirling about your head and growing teeth and — "Mama!?" More child threads into your voice than is usual as you bolt upright, your body all tense and your dark eyes ringed in white as you stare around. A moment ago, it seemed certain a giant whale had plunged down out of the sky to grab you, but as you look up, you see no whale. Nothing. Just clouds scudding through the claustrophobic blue. Probably Tallsun scares even the whales out of the sky; you blink once, just to make sure, and return your attention to the ground. You don't like it here. Virga we prayed for rain |
