The sky was wide open, not a cloud in sight, adding to the sweltering conditions of Tallsun. Past noon the heat appeared to level, even then it was hard to tell from down below or high above. These were lazy days, sleepy and restless as the water disappeared quickly into the soil.

As the day neared its end, Ru finally took flight. Escaping the dense forests to the West, she found relief once the ocean air breached with a salty tinge. Nostrils flared to suck in the aroma of sands, and drying seaweed along the shores. A mixture of fresh air off the ocean and the rotting flesh of its wildlife. Not entirely off-putting when it mixed and churned on the light breeze. There was a sense of ultimate freedom here, beside a horizon that stretched out for eternity – and it was tempting, in a sense – to embrace the unknown and dive head first into its perils. It wasn’t as if Ru had anyone to come back to. Wasn’t as if she’d mattered to anyone – the thought was less of a sting, and was becoming more and more of a prompt to do whatever the hell she wanted.

With a yell she angled herself down to the surface of the waters. Bright pale wings, fleshed out in slate grays and sooty browns along their outer covering, snapped to her sides. Limbs pulled in close as she was pulled further, faster to the water – gravity, producing all sorts of butterflies and nearly awefull motions inside. Not enough to deter her from the sharp nosedive down, like a comet plowing further into the atmosphere, about to burst from the friction.

Just a little longer… The girl nearly avoided smacking into the ocean, as she punched out her wings – spreading with full sails. Buffering the steep descent and loosing her breath. She struggled to adapt to its sudden motions as a hoof or two trailed into the water.

Gasping she beat her wings to fight past the momentary punch in her gut. Head swung, dizzy, unsteady as she gained altitude. Stars hovered above - about to explode - before she managed a few mouthfuls of air. The sound of her heart pounded behind her vision, and the dark, shiny lights hovered just out of view.

Gaining a few more seconds, the pegasi lulled along the horizon. She swayed back and forth, recovering, dancing across the tabletop – grazing the water with the tips of her feathers. Until she fumbled near the shore, and landed with a few splashes at its edges. She huffed and puffed, eyes blazing across the changing pink skies, the setting sun, how it ran like blood and spilled into the ocean.
