Her question only yielded a shrug from the warrior's blue-striped shoulders. Earlier in his life he might have said no, but recent events had changed that. After all .. hadn't ... who was it? The pale one .. the youngest? no .. she wasn't the youngest anymore .. she was .. viinattttti, Mara whispered into his mind, and the word seemed to fit. Yes, Vinati. She who could see ghosts and commune with them. If such a thing was possible, then perhaps similar magic could also call down those who had departed into the great plains, back into this world again. And so, Gaucho merely shrugged. "Ishis."
The dun chuckled at the girl's seemingly awe-struck whisper. Of whose loins could she have been birthed, such that magic was so ... what was the word? Synonyms swam before and in Gaucho's gaze and primitive mind, but none seemed right. Snorting, Gaucho shook his antlered skull slightly and nodded.
"Sun God give Gaucho much athmovezar. He give Gaucho antlers and companions too." Well, technically Gaucho found both Mara and Vorsa on his own, but as with every pious individual, he attributed his good fortune to his fiery deity.
As Gaucho's focus on his magic waned, the fiery construction began to dim and then flicker out - as a candle might when breath is applied to it. The dun didn't seem to have noticed. Instead he was peering down at the girl, still trying to swim through the fog that had descended upon his mind, to discern how it was that she seemed familiar. Who had taught her his native language, if she was not one of his? From where did she inherit her sandy colour, her primitive markings?
