Venturing south in Tallsun was possibly the whackiest idea Tilney had had all year.
Why not Frostfall!? Or Orangemoon?
At least birdsong!?
The gods blessed this land with varying seasons and each had their own characteristics - Tallsun was the season of the Sun god of course. Perhaps it was the time of year most prosperous to those who worshipped him; the Dragons Throat in particular.
Leaving his loved ones behind at the Edge was also something Tilney had battled with besides the sweltering heat and constant threat of death by wildfire. His love was cooped up safe and sound with their western sea sprayed adobe, and that kept his mind at ease.
Oh, Arah.
Little did the bronze lad know that his ivory doe would not spend her time waiting for his return alone. It was only a matter of time until a very special bundle of brown legs and white ribs was brought into the world. Perhaps if Tilney knew he was soon to sire a foal he would of stayed home to care for Arah by any means possible.

Peatree had slept most of the journey in a nest he'd build in Tilneys mane, just behind his left ear. Learning to fly was ever so tedious but very fun. The wide-eyed fruit bat would make small jumps and soar a few feet before scrambling back into the safety of Tilneys mane, thought the amount of times Tilney had to stop to pick a dazzled baby bat off the ground was bordering countless.
One night they had slept in the Heart Caves; It was one place Tilney felt the closest to the Sun god. He told Peatree of the time he'd met Byrd here - a ghastly creature who protected a magic drop. There were many stories to be told about these caves.

At the suns greeting Tilney stirred, taking up the glowing lantern by  scooping it with an upper tine on his lofty rack of antlers. It wasn't far to the throat, he was sure of it. "Nearly there Peatree" was his yawning utter, gaze turning to the fading stars as mother moon said her farewells.
The sun was still low in the sky, the water and clouds still coloured pink and purple when he arrived at the shore. On the horizon he could see the oasis, the mighty dragons throat.
He daren't swim, and he had no means of getting across. What was he to do? With a huff tilney waded into the cool water to wait for a comer or goer and hoped they might let him in. He only wished to seek out the Sun Physicians and parley.
