The deceiver had been drowning; each step towards the promise land was lathered in doubt and weighed down by the ball and chain of uncertainty. How much longer he could take toulouse did not know; he would press on until his bones snapped or muscles failed him.
Tallsun was the culprit - he knew that much. It was the sun who had stolen every drop of water the silken man had sought out and so it was sun who was to be held accountable for his current state. Was he to curse such a force? Surely that would only bring more solar terror down on him and finish him off; All he needed was water and shade and he would make it! A few more hours in this dry waste would make him a vultures breakfast in no time.
The barley coloured man searched for any kind of tree line, any marker on the horizon. Instead he came across the never ending cloudless blue sky and the daring suns threat. The cracked, dry earth also had no end and it convinced Toulouse even more that he would never find his way out of this waste with his life.

His salty, cracked lips he tried desperately to hide from further singing from the sun, shielding his face with a grey turban, holding the cloth with his teeth around each side of his face like blinkers. It was only when the wind picked up and blew his only element of protection left away that he noticed the shadows tailing him.
Turning his blistered nose skyward, the gentleman glared daringly at a trio of circling vultures. They anticipated the end just as he did, although they both had different interpretations of 'the end'. Toulouse imagined any moment he might stumble across an oasis and not just a deceptive mirage; or perhaps he would actually find a tree line that bordered another land.
"Curse you" he bellowed through a chafed throat to the circling scavengers.

Not two hours later, something of the kind happened.

The cursed man walked with his muzzle at his fetlocks; it almost dragged along the ground in front of him. His eyes remained closed, his eyelids not quite able to stay open. They drooped over his lifeless mint-coloured orbs as they waited for water to breath life back into him.
Soon his muzzle did in fact drag along the ground - along with each hoof. He stepped every few seconds, now hardly able to move without starting to sway. One, two, three and four. He took each pace steadily until the echoing slinking sounds form the sand underneath is hooves ceased and became pitter patters on moist, green earth.

Peeling his eyes open one by one Toulouse woke himself to the sight of a wondrous forest. he had made it. Hope had given him incredible strength - just enough to carry on and seek shelter in the foliage. Water would be found here in these forests surely, if only he knew where to look.
It took until nightfall for the caramel boy to give in to his ruined bodice. That lease of life hope had brought him had worn out easily when he had no luck at finding a source of water besides anything deposited in the greenery around him. After a sway and a trip the tall akhal fell against a fir and thus ending his time on this world. Or was it?
Little did he know he had made it to Helovias threshold - the very promise land he sought. It was a place of magic and new beginnings where magic and gods reigned; All manner of creatures and beasts made this place their abode.
As the curly haired beast lay in the earth below that scratchy fir he cried out for help, for life. He wished to live another day. only a moment passed before he also wished for a swift and painless death, and now the lifeless brute wished for either mercy the gods would grant him.

Either really would be most welcome.
