The Thief had never been to the Throat, but it was comforting to know that Lena would be there – to push her in the right direction and not cross any boundaries they shouldn’t have. She wondered silently through the trip of how many times Lena had made this trek before, of how many things she had seen in her time in Helovia. After all, Rexanna had only been here two years and already seen the fall of gods. What else could the world have hidden before her arrival? Her gaze drifted over to Lena as they approached, the sandy air brushing up against her joints in a soft wave of whispers and heat. It was dry here, and as she looked out upon the island that sat across a great distance of water, she wondered if the residents of this land had to swim to get to their home. How exhausting that might be!
Part of her imagined that if it were an equine or unicorn to come and greet them and had to swim across the water to hear their invitation, she might feel bad. But perhaps the residents would find respite away from the orangemoon sun with the gentle chill of the Basin’s shadows. She stayed silent as Lena called out across, keeping her gaze gentle on the waters, not feeling a single bit of worry in her bones. The Throat and the Basin were allies, she remembered that easily. But she didn’t know of the sadness that wavered over the land of losing the evident face of the land. Perhaps one day she’d know, but this day she stood alongside her herd mate in the hopes of inviting the land to their borders for a night or two of jubilance and excitement, of songs and laughter, of light shows and fireworks as they dazzled across the nighttime sky.
