As soon as she breaches the border the rain breaks through it's fluffy grayish barriers and begins to slip down to the earth below. Both her and the white bird, who cuts through the air flattened in steady flight at her side, move in utter silence. They move under the behemoth monument with no reaction or acknowledgment. Inwardly she gives the inanimate thing a loving salute, but otherwise stoically glides by. Tallsun's warmth lets fog settle all across the quiet Basin and at first it's thin and wispy, but soon it morphs into thick patches of virtually un-navigable clouds that veil the land. It's an hour or so before dawn now, the light is faint on the far horizon, but surely she cannot see it now (with the heavy mist). Her companion propels up and above the blankets of moisture – he can tell from his vantage point where she is headed and guides her according. Still there is no sound but their environment, the rustling leaves and spongy squishing sounds of the wet moss beneath her feet. She avoids the main path, asking Phrixus with a mental nudge to just take her home to her cave. She has not been home since early Spring. Boringly enough, and to her dismay, nothing of note caused her absence (or nothing on her surface, rather), and same for the cause of her return. Nothing guided her away and nothing draws her back.

She knows this is lie. Somewhere deep down she's aware of her denial.
Of where she belongs and why...

Somewhere in her chest her heart flutters when the smell of the lake, of the pines, drifts up into her nostrils. Her connection to Phrixus makes him feel something twinge inside him too. The rain patters a little heavier now and a light breeze picks up. It's blowing in from the Steppes, and swoops in to play with her wispy mane and the curled ends of her stumpy little tail. The fogs starts to clear and the visibility is well enough for her to pick her way through the western hills, over the rocky terrain, between the boulders and hemlock patches. The pale bird weaves and dips from high to low, circling above sometimes and then sinking slowly to join his mare's side below. The sun will be up soon and the dissolving mists are giving way to it's pre-dawn glows and the glistening beads of settled moisture. The rain has lightened to a calm, thin drizzle that seems to suspend instead of fall properly. Off to the east she can see the lake catching the faint peachy blossom of luminosity given off by the newborn morning. The soggy pony-shaped unicorn and her traveling mate make their way toward the hot springs where her cave sits untouched and waiting (she hopes) beyond the steaming crystalline pools.
