LUTHER
"Sleep with the feathers of angels stuffed beneath your head"

Much the opposite of his brother, Luther was a quiet creature, unperturbed by the unfolding "new" story of his life. Dunes were dunes. The sky was the sky. No matter how often these feature repeated, even if there were rocks and plants and other things in the way, he wasn't fascinated. There wasn't anything to contemplate really; it just was. It existed. That's that. He couldn't really change its state of being, and even if he could, he wouldn't. Was there really a big difference between a rock being on one spot versus another? Not really.

What did beg his attention was his state of being in this world - how he fit into the environment and how it affected him personally. For example, the sun was beating down on his red and black body with impunity, and he was rather hot. Sweat trickled down his striped neck as he shuffled toward water (he could smell it), knowing that the liquid and shade would cool him down. Luther lifted his useless (weak) wings so that air could flow over his sides as he wandered through sand toward the center of the island.

Red, cloven hooves slid through the sand and then arrived at the water's edge. Much the opposite of his brother who seemed to drink daintily nearby, Luther walked straight in. He felt the cool water rise to about chest height before he backed out, shaking out his coat once he was standing under his own weight again. Once the water calmed down, he looked at his reflection and furrowed his brows. Little, black nubs were starting to appear on his brow, and he wasn't sure that he liked them.

He couldn't explain why, but he didn't. Compared to mother and brother, he was very different. Black flames like burning darkness traveled along his wings, and he was even darker in color than the other two. Did he look like his father, at least? He hoped so. He wanted to belong to someone...

Quietly, Luther wandered around the water's edge and he came to stand beneath a tree branch, appreciating his mother's "communal parenting" technique. She didn't hover, and he got to learn from more than just one parent.
