Belief was a concept too abstract to ever understand. She would never really know her sister, not in Birch's mind. If he knew of her and her plight he might have said something, done something other than arrive silently behind her in the meadow. There were no dead grasses to dance and tickle the roots that cradled his legs, there was only ice. He found it comforting, found it amusing.
