L E A N D E R A soft nicker met his question to the colt. White lined orbs flicked back to catch Amenhotep moving up to meet his sister's side. The little filly was obviously growing tired, and it seemed her brother was just as concerned about her well being as he was. Fortunately, the three were quickly approaching the interior of the Throat; to their front lay the lake, it's water's frozen in Frostfall's grip. Relieved, the sandy brute slowed to gentle walk, one dark wing still cupped over the petite ivory child. "Here we are. You can get a drink here, if you're thirsty. Then I think we'd better get you some rest, Nefertari." He spoke, smiling down at his new and weary daughter. He stepped forward to the water's edge, then lifted one heavy forelimb to break the ice over the surface, clearing away the hardened layer so the children could drink. The water was frigid, but his winter coat had grown in thickly, and with the added warmth of downy wings, the stallion stayed quite comfortable in the harsh season. It was the foals he was concerned for, but they were strong for their age, it seemed. After surviving the loss of their birth parents, Leander suspected that the children would not feel Frostfall to be such a feat. The brittle palm trees around the lake's perimeter were snow laden and would proved decent shelter from the wind. With a purposeful look, he made his way over to a group of fairly large palms, and began to push the snow with his umber muzzle. At first, it just looked as though he was only rooting around for grasses, but soon the purpose was apparent. He was creating a bed for the foals to sleep in, moving most of the snow into a buffer from the low temperature. The remnants of thick summer plants laid flattened at the bottom of the circular bed, hopefully providing some insulation for the little ones' bodies. Honey eyes glanced back at Nefertari and Amenhotep every so often, dilligence within their depths. He was responsible for them now, and losing them at this time of year could be fatal.  |
