Oh, heart be still.
Tilney could hear his pulse and even the blood trickle through his veins as he stared out at the wide ocean - the same ocean that had carried him away from Helovia for two whole seasons. Away from his home, his friends and loved ones, from Arah.
Facing fears was not something that ginger healers were user to. As a healer he was generally behind the curtain, never even gazing at a horror.

Today though, Tilney stood facing the threat of the water and the many evils it possessed.

He would cross these shallows and he would get to the Riptide Isles.
Cloven hooves slipping downwards into the aqua, Tilneys shaking jaw refused to turn under, he wouldn't look down and he wouldn't give in to his sick, throbbing cheast. Looking ahead at his goal, the isles, the physician powered on along the shallow strip.

Numbering every step was all he could do to take his mind off of the terrifying nightmares that galloped across his every thought. What if the sea was to rise and swallow him once again? Drag him away for an eternity this time?
No. It would not.

Pressing on the flaxen lad declared war with the water with every step until he reached the shore of the Isles. How proud he was to have conquered his fear, and without a single mishap along the way!
Clearly his past misfortune had been just that - a freak accident, poorly timed and misjudged. It would not happen again. He would only cross as low tide and in the best of weather.

Slipping along the rocks, Tilney eased his way onto a south-facing, hidden beach. It even had coconuts.

How exotic. How I wish Arah was here.

Perhaps she would never return. It was a solid possibility.
He growled at himself for the night he had spent among the company of another mare not so long ago; how it pained him now to have committed such an adulterous act! And with Glasgow. She was a friend of his yes, but a friend of Arah's also. How could he be so cruel?
But how could Arah be so cruel to him?
To Maude.

As the troubled man drew into a shaded, canyon-like lagoon, he whispered and cursed under his breath. Slamming his cloven hoof into the pale water and watching it purity break, Tilney let his head fall. What had become of this new life?
Months ago he was the happiest he'd ever been, now he was the most furious and the most melancholy.
How times had changed.
