There. A track edged one wall of the hedged row and a devilish smile rose as he noted its size. Haldir, sensing them getting closer to what he supposed was the target, began to lag behind. He did not remember the colt as fondly as the gold. Where the Laurelin had been impressed with the child’s magic and boldness, he had quite the opposite reaction. Especially considering he had been nearly on the receiving end of it.

A sound of tearing flesh at the mouth of a hungry beast rose in the spaces ahead. At first the gold felt a waver tremble over him. The idea of coming to find the colt just as he was torn to shreds was frustrating to say the least. Harks pinned back slightly as he steps forward more briskly, his mind no longer trying to hide movement or scent. And just as he was ready to come through the last of the mists, expecting a dead body, he heard a familiar voice….

Well almost familiar. Its audacity, certainty was the same, but it had grown deeper and stronger. Still it couldn’t be doubted. A wide grin grew on his lips that even he was powerless to limit for he had found Rexanna’s son, the lost prince. “An old friend…” Came a weathered yet sly reply and he stepped up through to the scene.

There was a dead body, but luckily for the bounty hunter, not the one he was after. Earth eyes glide over the scene in some casual form as he comes to a halt a few paces away. The colt hadn’t changed much…or at least in some deep way. His shoulders still carried that seriousness, too deep for his age alone. Yet…there was something more. It was small, and flickering, only barely glimpse-able in his eyes and the context of the scene (where he companion mauled some royal looking creature). It was a rage. Not hot and burning, but cold and promising. Some dark place where a child should not have reached. What had brought that out the gold mused….and in some small more malicious part of his mind he wondered, how could he make it grow. Those who held such smoldering fires could easily go through life just fine and boring, but god they made the best entertainment…if you got the temperature just right…

The crown head dips as he halts. “I see you took my advice to practice....”  A spark of gold gleams in his eyes as he reaches out to look at the downed mythical creature. “Baby foxes get too boring?” His tasseled tail switches from side to side, rolling and curling along, cat like. It was only at this point his mind makes note that Haldir is no longer beside him. Without looking about, he checks with the stag to find the creature still in the mists. Having come so close to being in the Qilin’s position, he didn’t fancy getting any closer.

The gold spun a few threads through his brain, letting his fingers tab over them. He shouldn’t, not when there was much at stake, but he couldn’t resist trying to pin point exactly what force had grown in the colt to turn him so much darker…So he shouldn’t…but curiosity got the better of him. . “A grand display of skill you’ve got there now, but not as wonderful without a bit of spitfire flare….” The wild grin taints a little as he looks back directly at the colt. He shouldn’t be pushing buttons, but that’s like telling the hyena before them not to devour flesh. It was instinct. Besides, perhaps it’ll lead to a homecoming without him having to give some gag worth sap speech about worried sick momma and papa.
