BACCHUS
the good guys never win



Bacchus stood, stoic and uncomplaining, totally unmoving, although inside his rather peculiar head he was thinking of a hundred trivial things. Why is Snö white, not black? Who is her father? Who is the black mare? What does she do? Rapha kept his head down respectfully, but could not resist the quickest of glances upward as the two spoke. He was an onlooker, an outsider and an insider. He was an object- something of mild importance, but mainly, to be ignored unless needs. A rug to be stepped on.

Despite the stallion's confusion on the matter of freedom and slavery, he felt a tinge of perverse pleasure at Snö's display of ownership. The dun admired her beauty, and her strength, and the bronze wolf at her side. He liked belonging to her, rather than the black mare, at least. Snö's mother. Rapha longed to ask for the mare's name, but it shouldn't be so. After all, he was an item. Rocks or manes or water doesn't speak. Neither should he.

Bacchus kept his eyes low throughout his ponderings, and soon his mind shifted from the topic to his own thoughts. What would Snö use him for? Were there many horses here? Would he be expected to serve all? Maybe, much to his distaste, he would have to babysit. He hated babysitting- he had done it frequently at the warlord Loki's, with the crazed stallion's many proud foals sauntering about. Babysitting was the devil's work.
