But then her attention is pulled back to the Yeti, who is asking for another thing – a snack. What on earth is she going to bring him for a snack? Many set off with their companions and their magic to hunt. How is she, with only hooves and blunt teeth at her disposal, supposed to hunt? But he doesn’t seem like a creature that particularly wants to eat nothing but berries. That said, she knows where to find berries, so she’ll just have to see what else she can find along the way.
She leaves her little group again, wandering off to hunt down the black bearberry bushes she’s seen before. Bears seem to like those particular berries, so perhaps Yeti’s do as well? It doesn’t take her long to find the bushes again, and she breaks a few branches off, brimming with berries. It does not seem like enough though, so she keeps scouting around.
It is by sheer luck she finds the snow goose. It lies on the ground helpless, one wing splayed at an angle that clearly indicates it’s broken. The bird has some obvious wounds, and in truth, her heart breaks. But it will not live, and she does not think she can heal it. It appears too injured for her magic to be of any use. So instead, she finds a rather sharp branch, quietly adding, “Peace be with you,” as she uses the branch to cut off whatever short life the goose may have had. In the end, she knows it is a kindness to end it’s suffering, but it feels too selfish to really be a kindness.
She tucks the branches of berries in her wings to carry, and picks the bird up in her mouth and slings it across her back. As she walks back, she has to stop to adjust the bird now and again, but she manages to get back to the Yeti without too much trouble.
She finds a nice, semi-flat rock and deposits the goose on the rock. Then, she takes the branches from her wings and dislodges the berries so they surround the goose. “A snow goose with black bearberries for you,” she says simply, nodding to the Yeti and hoping it will please him. If nothing else, it certainly looks like a reasonable snack. She has no idea if he’d prefer his meat cooked or not, but she has no way of cooking it anyway. With that, she makes her way back to Bella and Yael, waiting to see what other tasks would be set before them.
