No frost lingered in the grass this morning, and it was as clear as sign as Erthë had ever found that frostfall truly was over. It brought a sigh from her chest, a sound of resignation that misted in the warming air and made her cold breath glitter in the pearly light as it pooled down through the canopy. Birdsong had a way of making her melancholy, far more so than fall. The rebirth that went on all around her brought the mind to all the things that would never return, and more than ever she felt the absence of those loved ones that should have been by her side.

Stepping out though the rim of the forest, she found that the wind had already begun to scatter the mists along the cliff. If the light and the soft ripple of the ocean below were any indicators it would be another beautiful day, warm and damp and full of heady scents; rot and mildew mixing with the perfume of flowers and sticky deciduous leaves bursting out of their husks. The cry of terns and gulls off the edge of the cliffs saluted the return of the migratory birds; soon it would be a perilous thing indeed to wander the pale rocks, unless one enjoyed being dive-bombed by nesting birds and the sometimes earsplitting din of their cries.

Bleary eyed and not yet fully awake, Erthë spared the serene landscape a mere passing glance before she bowed her head to the earth, more intent on foraging for the tender spring grasses than bird-spotting. There would be much to do later in the day, but for now the place was hers and hers alone; the relative silence was heartening, erasing the memory of nightly terrors as gently as the sun did dry the dew that coated all that was the Edge.

Likely the peace would not last long - it never did around here. Nevertheless, the Sage would make the most of it while she could.
