All I want is Champagne and sunshine
Breathlessly he raced up the grassy incline of the Fields. Occassionally he slipped mud leftover from old spring storms, but he only seemed to press on harder whenever he did, undeterred even if the ground was against him. Screw the ground! he thought dismissively, if not a tad arrogantly. He's a pegasus after all, he can't help but have a closer relationship with the sky instead of the land, or at least this is what eh wants. Being young he has known nothing else, but aside from storms, Spring has brought in his new summer coat and his flight feathers. Baby fuzz and down alike shed off him like snow earlier in the season, and as unattractive as that was then, he was gleaming now under the noon light.

"Come on!" he tossed back over his shoulder, hesitating briefly to glance back before pressing on. "HURRY!" he urged for no reason at all, other than being swept up in his own excitement, in the inability to wait even a second longer after waiting all these days.

At least Iskra plateaued onto the Fields, cresting over the fold like a wave breaking on the shore. He was all energy, heels and tail and feathers in the sky as he leaped and bucked and sprinted. He bolted for the nearest edge he could find, and as much as the heart hammering in his chest wanted him to just keep going, to just open up his wings and fall into the wind, an abrupt hesitation overwhelmed him and he slid to a stop at the precipice. Still, daring, he toed the line, feeling the wet soil crumble willingly beneath his footsteps, neck bent to stare down at the mighty distance below. At his sides his wings hung loose, and gradually he slipped them out a little further from his sides, flexing them up and down to feel the way the subtle breeze changed across their angles.

"Mom said starting somewhere high is better," Iskra started saying aloud, even if just to himself - it was something to distract him from the abundant adrenaline pouring through him.

She'd also said you should do some strength training before jumping off cliffs, but he seemed to stop listening after that part, too engrossed with the idea that she thought he was ready to fly. She'd showed him a few things on the ground, but he was obviously already a master who didn't need any further training from his mom or otherwise.
