Lena the Songbird

She stood along the shores of the unfreezing lake, merely basking, a few moments of repose and sanctuary, liberation and deliverance, eyes closed, careless, whimsical thoughts floating like wispy clouds. The Songbird imagined many silly things coiled behind her lids, beyond the stars, chasing down firelights and illustrious hues, pushing past walls and igniting convictions, humming a simple, sweet tune to the rest of her dreams. An interruption only came on the thrum of hoof beats, and her eyes opened, watched several prominent individuals gathering along the horizon, wildly familiar – beloved friends alike, and her heart soared even further, until she was a tangled knot of movement and motion, gesturing towards Imogen to follow, follow, follow

They became a united front of elegance and rapture, once Lena was certain she’d grasped Alysanne’s intrepid scent, and a host of others (Rikyn, Tiamat, the young Corporal rising from the soldier ranks), pulsing and pervading her way towards the frozen aperture with a radiant smile and a keen heart. “Goodness, what a crowd!” She heralded amidst the gathering, once they’d embarked beneath the Sentinels, nodding, bobbing her head in greetings towards her fellow compatriots and monarch, extending warmth and delight, curiosity and exuberance (wondering why there was such a multitude, but the inquiry had already been threaded through the air, and she saw no reason to repeat it). The same beatific smile lingered upon the painted Pegasus, enchantment sculpted right along her heavenly bearings and features, granting melodic welcomes and reveries. “Alysanne! How are you?” Last she’d seen the femme, she’d been broken within the Endless Blue, ailing from a quest she’d dared to conduct, and Lena had understood, had comprehended, just how strong and persistent a soul had to be – to continue fighting, to continue thriving, even when the noose pulled tighter and tighter. She almost yielded to asking if she’d completed her task, but it wasn’t the right time or place, so her eyes settled upon the other (likely) Edge fellows, surprised to see another in similar resemblance to Alysanne, and Sacre (a child of the Doctor – and here she smiled again in fondness, in familiarity, in winsome parallels, of days filled with mystery, danger, but so much endurance, so much fortitude). To aid the unknown members, she provided her name, her rank, and her indulgences with the good graces of her harmony, rhapsodizing over the gallant throng. “I’m Lena, one of the Time Menders of the Basin.”
