sweet bitter words, unlike nothing I have heard:

Darkly smiling at Raeden as she’s forced to respect me instead of threatening my life or pin tricks on me, I almost let her little jab at my adventures rouse a sharp remark - almost. It’s not the time, however, and the words would probably reveal a lot more about my character than I’d like to let on in front of so many people. So, I swallow down my we do more than chide and deceive others for trespassing here, bitch, commentary.

Glad to be getting this over with, I look at the two women who are supposed to be coming with me, scowling back at them for all the glances I got in the interim. Who do they think they are, anyway? I’m the one with the authority here, and I can act however I want. They can deal with it, or go home. I snort aloud at that thought and turn to leave as Sacre bids the equine and unicorn scholars to follow me, I nod to the red-splashed stallion’s thanks, my perturbation with it all perhaps to evident on my face.

I try to smile.

It just comes out a bit… twisted.

"Don’t mention it," I dryly say, an impish and true grin gaining over the disgruntled mess of a smile I’d managed at first, "I’ll just have to return the favor sometime."

I’m about to set off, actually manage a few steps in that direction, when the sound of trundling wheels draws my attention back around, and a small fur-ball suddenly attaches itself to my leg. Looking down to find Marembo, one of Duir’s friends, clinging to my limb, his wide eyes hopeful, I look up and out through the gathering for sight of his gilded bond-mate, Rexanna.

Instead of the familiar face of the mare who had been the first, aside from myself, to meet my fawn, I instead find a child. My head immediately pulls back, all the more disgruntled by her sudden appearance (the filly making me think, of all the horrible things to think of, about Glacia, and her ever growing belly), I think I’m going to hate her…

Until she speaks.

The gaze that had been hard softens, my raised crown lowering in time with my tensions. Perhaps it is that, in my heart, I know that soon, I might have something very much like this child as my own, or just that I’m not as hard assed as I pretend to be, but it’s really hard to be mean to kids. Even that stunted weirdo, Virga, hadn’t been that bad, I think, looking down at the pretty child, wondering, fearing, anxious, for my own, still a mystery to me.

I glance back at Weaver as she mentions me, after nodding hello to Rexanna, as she approaches, and I also eye the glass cart curiously, trying my best to ignore the pain that rises fresh to heart at the mention of my dead uncle.

"Yeah, that’s a plan," I tell the painted Corporal, distantly, glancing also at the two mares who are surely waiting for me to get my ass in gear, before I shoot an apologetic and warm smile back to my friend, "I, uh, I gotta go now, Rex. It was good to meet you, Safiri."

I bow my head slightly, with a smile, towards the girl. Duir’s voice bursts into my head suddenly: Tell Remy I come! he insists, sending flashes of the vale as he makes his way towards us.

"Duir is on his way. If Tiamat is too busy, I’ll be back once we’re done at the mirror, and he and I can escort you, instead," I promise, hopefully moving back around the last time, to the mirror (waiting, also, for Marembo to detach himself from my leg); looking at the two scholars, I nod, and take broad steps towards the direction of the jagged cavern mouth, visible from here, at the distant shore of the lake, as a dark interruption in the gray stone face of the mountain which housed the Mirror in its heart,"come on then, uh, Akumi, yeah? And I never caught your name."

I ask Ingrid, looking back to meet her eyes for a second, before continuing on.

[ OOC: Next post from Rikyn will be at the cave and Duir will be chillin' with his Marem-bro. This one is just way too long already so I’m gonna stop here :P ]

sing along, mockingbird; you don't affect me.
