oh, I see stars rushing through my mind

colours have no time to fade

This Amaris, the one before him on the beach, was vastly different than the one he had greeted on the borders of the Edge with Tandavi. There was something dangerous in her smile, in the words she spoke to him. Already he was wondering whether it was a good idea to engage in a spar with her and already he knew that he would hold back at least a little bit. He knew what he was capable of in a fight, knew the nightmares that plagued him at night were born of very real instances where the claws of his warg form had torn into flesh and delighted in it. Whatever Amaris hoped to achieve today, Mesec just wanted to prove that he was capable of not turning into a monster - that he didn’t need to unleash everything in a spar. His goal was to learn, to use this spar as a means to stretch.

Whatever he was intending to get from this spar, it was going to require his full attention and he shouldn’t stand around lingering and trying to figure out whether he was in it or not. Amaris started to move, and that very much meant his time for changing his mind had expired.

She surged towards him - the slight difference in their height utterly insignificant when he was watching someone who was half dragon move. Admittedly, he was probably watching her a little too intently - it was fascinating seeing the way she shifted her weight - and he was absolutely not watching her tail. Realizing how stupid he was came almost too late, just as she was passing by, and Mesec stumbled into action to move forward and away at an angle from Amaris and the deadly tail and whip combination that she trailed along with her. The sand beneath his hooves made his actions clumsy as he moved.

The scythe at the base of her tail only grazed Mesec’s shoulder as he turned, only leaving the barest of scratches to mark its path, but the electric whip all but slapped into his as it dragged from his chest to his shoulder as he moved in the opposite direction from where Amaris had been going. He grunted at the impact, eyes widening as his skin sizzled and popped at the contact - the whip leaving behind a slender but significant electrical burn that would blister and boil in a short amount of time.

Although moving his shoulder stung slightly, the wound didn’t significantly impact his movements - though he could still feel a tingling sensation in the area where it had touched. He cantered forward a few more steps before turning, his silver eyes seeking out Amaris once more. Mesec was ill-equipped for a fight - the trinkets and items he carried were tokens from those he loved, memorials of those who had lost, and even the golem Zero had made him had fallen into disrepair and no longer responded to Mesec’s voice.

There weren’t a lot of tricks that the demigod knew, but there were still some.

Mesec moved towards Amaris, quickly closing the gap between them, and when they were a few strides apart he pulled on the early morning shadows with his magic and cloaked himself with them, turning invisible. He aimed to go almost head-on, hoping to move past her just as she had for him, knowing he wouldn't be completely undetectable but hoping that the loss of sight was enough to give him a bit of an edge for his attack. His head lowered as he approached and it was only when he had reached her that he let go of his magic, his twisted horn aiming to strike along her right shoulder and wing-joint. With her scaled body, Amaris didn't exactly have a lot of weaknesses but Mesec needed to make an attack, right?

Lucius huffed as he circled nearby, keeping an eye on Dramyrth, but otherwise kept quiet on Mesec's choice to purposefully ignore the most effective magic and weapon he had. Fighting was what the warg was made for, after all, and Amaris had said not to hold back. Whatever the zephyr's opinion on the matter, his bonded remained stubborn - hoping that he would give Amaris the fight she wanted without having to shift into something more deadly.
