Clementine watched with wide eyes as the cracks on the delicate eggshell widened, splitting the smooth surface light lightning split the sky. The girl nearly vibrated with excitement for her sister, for she had some semblance of understanding of what the presence of this egg meant. Clementine knew that her mother’s dragon was important to her. She had heard things muttered like soul bond but she didn’t really know the significance of such a thing. But now? Now her sister surely would know - and obviously she would tell her!
Talk of dragons easily captures Clem’s attention. “Our Mama has a white dragon named A’mal. She’s funny. Maybe you can meet her sometime!” the orange girl trilled, happily, to the other winged girl who she’d already accepted as friend.
“Nope,” the flower girl murmured, with a theatrical shake of her head, “That’s definitely not a dragon.”
“It’s a...bird?” she asked, cocking her head, not confident at all in her answer. “It’s so pretty! Oh and it has wings! It will be able to fly just like you!” the flower child trilled, pressing closer to her sister. A wide smile tugs at her lips, only wavering when the other girl spoke of coldness. She felt foolish for not thinking of it sooner! “Oh, you’re right it is kind of chilly! Should we do anything?” She said, toeing the sand restlessly and wearing a small frown. But soon the excitement in her belly chases away any of the hesitation, and her eyes light up again as she looks to the other girl.
“Maybe there’s eggs out there for us too!” Clementine whispered, conspiratorially, to the girl, making clear not to steal Melita’s thunder - she was genuinely happy for her sister. The flower girl wasn’t one prone to jealousy.
