Sunlight filtered down from the fathomless blue vault of the sky like slender fingers poking through the clouds. They caressed the world like a morning dew caresses the field, exalting the earthen canvas below with a shower of idllyic warmth. Azulee unfurled her mahogany wings, basking jubilantly in the fair weather, lobed ears pricked forward with interest as lanky limbs strummed softly against the thawing terrain. Eyes of vibrant cobalt peered out pensively ahead of her and with a unique sort of lightheartedness implicit of youth she rejoiced in her freedom, prancing along with blithesome unconcern.

Mother had warned her about straying from the Dragon's Throat, but it was only natural for the young flicka to grow curious and disregard her mother's warning. The world beyond her desert oasis was vast and brimming with places and people to meet and its allure was far too potent for the child to ignore. It was with a pompous insouciance that she strode across the russet stone of her home and past the undefined borders of the Throat, wading through patches of budding foliage with her nose tipped to the sky. Her hooves clicked softly against the arid loam of the desert which soon coalesced into the dull crust of Helovia's Heart.

The scent of smoke wafted unto her but she paid it little heed. Eyes of bright cerulean stared vacantly at the forest of saffron which spanned for what seemed to be an endless distance before her. A puff of air whirred from her nostrils, and she ruffled her wings, their magnitude already quite impressive for a filly of her stature. She assumed a bouncy canter, hooves clicking softly against the parched terrain. She could feel the wind as it breathed slowly through her feathers, coaxing her upward.

Flight - it never ceased to amaze her. It was still a rather novel and daunting concept to the filly, and yet the desire to fly had come about naturally as the need to breathe. For a pegasus, few things would ever compare to such a marvelous sensation. To be one with the sky... it was a truly an indescribable feeling. Azulee pitied those who would never know for themselves.

What she saw as she rose into the sky surprised her. The lightning child arced her body to the side, beholding breathlessly the gaping hole which gouged Earth's dark bosom like a wound. Fire churned within the crater and Azulee could feel the heat, even at such a far distance. She was used to it, even finding it to be comforting. She had grown up in a desert, afterall, constantly bathed in the seemingly unremitting warmth of the sun. Azulee wondered idly what her mother would think once she realized she had wandered from her protection. Her father said she was only so strict to keep her from harm but how would the belle ever learn if not from exploring?

It was then that her gaze became anchored on another, and Azulee narrowed her eyes in focus - a filly like her! Ears flicked forward excitedly, and a whinny peeled from her lips. "Hey!" She uttered joyously as she neared the ground. Rather ungracefully the lightning child made her descent, tripping as her hooves made contact with the Earth once again. "Oof!" She exclaimed as her small body lurched forward. In a bout of childish clumsiness she tumbled forward, rolling obliquely onto her right shoulder and then rolling the rest of the way until she was right side up again. She blinked her eyes hazily as she laid for a moment with her legs splayed awkwardly before rising once again, shaking her wings and mane.
