There is something behind the throne

He wondered if she had ever had a family, and if so, where they were now. Perhaps if she had suffered the loss that he had, she would not be so quick to ask questions. But then, he supposed that few had - after all, how many heirs to the throne were tossed aside in a revolution, scattered alongside his family. Not killed - no, no one had cared enough to kill them - but simply tossed aside, unwanted and unneeded. They had all be separated - perhaps his siblings and parents had indeed been killed, by some angry mob gone wild, perhaps, or a commoner with an unfounded grudge.
There were worse fates than dying, though. He was filled with rage at the thought of what commoners might do to his sisters, to his mother. He, at least, respected women, even if he did use them. But it was always with their consent, they knew what he offered. No, if she had had his life, she would not be asking these questions. But he was not a liar, and he would not avoid the question. He was, if nothing else, honest, perhaps to the point of brutality. It had helped him many a time in his past - would it do the same here? "I had a family," he told her, carefully keeping his face blank, his voice emotionless. If I look back, I am lost, he told himself, and was determined to speak of it as though he was not one of them. It made it easier, if he did not have to be theirs, nor they his. "My mother bore four sons and three daughters for my father. I was the oldest. The second-eldest, Erigor, he's the one that came here with me. the others... are gone." He could not allow himself to name them, not aloud - that would bring them back, make their likenesses reappear in his mind's eye. It was painful, and he was not a masochist. [OOC | It's ok! ^^] |
