Who does he remind me of? the shadow-mare wondered, orange eyes skimming the youthful, muscular frame of the dappled colt. He was stoic, withdrawn - something like d'Artagnan, perhaps? No, he was not gruff, merely... emotionless. Like Deimos? That was closer, but the youngling was still not as like the General as he might have hoped. An eagerness pervaded his questions, but an eagerness for what? Acceptance? A role? Power? A home, for sure... but the rest? She supposed that she would find out. "Warriors are always in high demand here, aren't they, Aviya, darling?" she replied with a too-sweet smile. Perhaps she was instigating: it was a subtle hint towards the 'big, strong warrior' that Varath would surely become. Really, what harm could come from her nephew and one of her closest advisor's daughter's union?

She would go far, the young filly. Already the jackal could see the desire for power, the desire to please her. Perhaps she should take more of an interest in the foals of her herd, particularly d'Artagnan and Kou's. A call interrupted her thoughts: "Varath!" Her orbs found the newcomer, lobes swiveling to him. He bore a similar look to the young fighter before her, but he was not as composed. In fact, there was something awkward about him, as though he had yet to outgrow his youth. Where she had met Varath with pleasure, she met this one with indifference, freely allowing Aviya to speak for her: "And you are?"

Her eyes were emotionless, her voice cool, poisonous. It was really no deviation from her usual way, though she had warmed toward Varath and, of course, Aviya. Whomever this was, she wondered where he would fit - he did not look a warrior, not in the same way that his brother (she presumed) did; nor did he seem cunning and manipulative, like the filly. Like me. What did he desire from her, from her land? Would he simply follow in Varath's footsteps like a loyal mutt, or would he emerge from the shadows to form his own way?
