Sensing the presence of Tallsun hot on their backs, the murder begins to caw with increasing volume, and the forest sounds, had they been audible, would have been deafened by the sound. Victims of the sun god's fury, they flock to those who worship the moon and descend upon the pair below. Feathers fall off of them like snow and entangle themselves in the manes of the two unicorns.
Daltoff is gifted temporarily with the raven's call- at night, his voice may shudder to match the raven's crow and, exhausted from the heat of the day, some of his more equine characteristics will become reminiscent of the raven. The only way to rid himself of the blessing earlier is to wait for a sunrise, and whisper a blasphemous prayer to the sun god once the sun has passed the edge of the horizon. If he does this, his voice will return to normal, and the enchantment that changes the shape of his eyes and brings feathers poking through flesh will disappear.
Mauja is gifted with two long black flight feathers that wrap themselves behind his ears and three that intermingle in the length of his tail. As long as he stays true to his worship of the Moon and desires the feathers to stay in their place, they will remain. With each of the five feathers comes a gift of the Moon that will only be apparent to Mauja during her holy hours; darkening shadow, brighter stars, softer breezes, cooler waters, and a silvery moonlit reflection in his eyes, to symbolize the intensity, and perhaps blindness, of his worship.
Having left their mark, the murder flies up with a chorus of calls to their beloved night and then disappears into the shadows of their own making, returning to the pair the heat of Tallsun, the sounds of the wood, and a feeling that something within them has changed.
