Mauja the FrostHeart
ice cold man watches earth die, eternal winter takes its reign

"Uh, shit?" comes a deep voice, mimicking his own statement of bewilderment; Mauja's eyes flashed briefly to his newfound, sturdy friend, before returning to the darkening forest. How was it possible for so many ravens to be in the same place at once? They hop and skip among the branches, flitting across the empty spaces to fill it with their suffocating darkness, and yet the King doesn't find it in his heart to be afraid. Still, being greeted by a sky-full of ravens didn't belong to the norm. In his pale chest, his heart was beating faster than usual, steadily pumping cooling blood through his ready body. There were no sounds but the ones of him and Daltoff breathing, and the voices of those dark, dark creatures sitting in his trees. They screamed and shrieked, shrill and deep, and he stared up at them in quiet amazement, wondering why they were here. What could they possibly want? They were in the lands of the Moon, so he did not want to fear them, yet so many ravens... so many talons, so many beaks, pecking at them, and only three eyes to peck out. If they could blot out the whole sky, what could they possibly do to two unicorns, who stood alone down here, cast in shadow? The sudden realization that this amount of birds could kill both of them was unnerving, to say the least.

They shook their wings and their voices, and the ground shook with them. Feathers rained down, falling softly, like black snow all around them; a most curious sensation stirred behind his ears, as two of the long, sleek things embedded themselves there, bound in by his pale hairs. These were no usual ravens. He could feel the touch of the Moon upon the feathers which clung to his body, and the wonder in his eyes deepened as he looked upon them. It seemed that they were done, however, for with more cries they took to the skies, and sunlight streamed down between their wings. He blinked in the sudden glare of it, and as the sky emptied, feathers still falling, the warmth rushed in again. Mauja shuddered. He'd preferred the sky filled with cold ravens.

He could hear the rest of the world again, but just barely; his heart kept thundering, like drums in his ears. The trees and the sky had cleared of the birds, and only a thin carpet of feathers remained to tell the tale - that, and the five ones he bore now. He could feel them move against his neck whenever he shifted his head, stroking, teasing, yet not coming loose; they felt like they were part of him, cool despite their color. With wonder in his eyes, he turned to look upon the bay warrior - he seemed unchanged here in the daylight, but who knew what gift the Moon had left for her newest warrior? They'd been baptized in black feathers, and a small grin broke his dark lips. "That was quite a homecoming," he said, a quivering note still in his voice - he'd not been afraid, merely startled, and then awed. "I believe our patron Goddess the Moon gave us that visit." He moved aside from the tree, swishing his tail - catching sight of something dark. Mauja's head swung around, the two feathers gently mirroring the motion, stroking his neck. The King shivered, swished his tail again. Indeed, some things black resided there, yet Daltoff seemed to not have any feathers upon him. "Huh. I wonder what gift she left for you to find," he mused quietly, stepping a little deeper into the territory. "Well. Is there something particular you wish for me to show you, Daltoff? The Edge, the best grazing that remains, the ocean...?" There were a couple of points of interest, and either he would show them to the bay, or let him do his own exploring - it depended on what the stallion preferred.
angels, they fell first, but I'm still here
