Something shattered beyond repair, something exploded into a thousand pieces, and it broke into confetti that fell on the bodies of the dead, but this was no party, nor was the shreds of ribbon visible. It was pain much worse, so much worse, than when Xanthos had pierced her cheek with a blackened horn, worse than anything she could imagine or experience, worse than when Lace had disappointed her.

Tor wanted to cry, to run and flee from the mare whose eyes slowly turned hard, to the wolf-horse that spoke so bitterly to her; called her hag and abandoner, and maybe it was that word that sparked some little resistance in her.

"Me, abandon her? She had not visited me in the whole of Frostfall." The draft said, quietly, and did not flinch again when Ophelia told her to leave, told her to 'just go'. "You are not the Ophelia I know." Slowly, as elegantly as she can muster, she lets her great head fall, shakes her neck, twists it back and forth until finally the amulet around her neck loses hold, and falls over the pale ears onto the sodden ground.

For a moment it glistens, and then mud splatters the smooth green surface as Tor backs away, split in two by the emotions holding her. Anger. Pity. Sadness. It twisted, intertwined, so when the pale mare pregnant looked upon Ophelia's face one last time, she wasn't certain what she felt. "Take your payment, Ophelia. I am always here for you, even when you do not realize it." She turns, brushes by the winged stallion, and one single tear falls from her dark eyes.

Ophelia was gone from her.
