His hooves sink to a stop on the hot red sands uncomfortably.

The dun body is poised carefully by the border between the wilds and the Dragon's Throat, auburn tail flicking on a dry wind with a color like wildfare. He is clearly uncomfortable in such arid conditions, a sheen of sweat and dirt on his dusty-colored coat. He has been here twice before; the first time he witnessed the Sun god, and the second time he was captured by the green pegasus Xira. Dei circles overhead, dwarfing the sun's blazing disk, every lazy round bringing out new shades in his scales - bronze, copper, gold. Jackal watches him, admiring his handsome colors, his sparkling eyes wrought of jade. How lucky I am, he thinks fondly, remembering how the handsome metallic egg brought meaning when the world was devoid of love, when the very foundations of his life had been so thoroughly shaken, they threatened to collapse. He sighs, swinging his rusty head downwards to observe the red desert around him. How long that boy has come - the beggar son of a kingdom long gone to rot made king. But not without a heavy price; he sighs, letting a striped hoof rake the hot sand, the minuscule kernels stinging the thin skin of his forelimbs.

Somewhere in the distance, a hawk screams, and the manic call of greedy vultures follow. Silver eyes shift to the horizon and regard it with interest, recalling the sultana's likeness in an epiphany akin to lightning. Kri the Resolute - a legend, the fearless winged leader of Isilme, the victorious leader of the Throat for more seasons than any other can boast. He exhales softly, the breath coming out through his velvet nostrils in a hot stream of air. A sigh; he wonders if he will ever be as prolific as she - does he even want that burden?

He hopes that someone will come soon, lest he become another pile of bleached bones buried by the greedy fingers of sand.
if you're still breathing, you're the lucky ones,
'Cause most of us are heaving through corrupted lungs
