CHILD OF THE NIGHT</style>
Blessed with wind and darkness</style>

High in the sky above, the moon sat unhampered by any sort of obstructions, free to cast its soft rays of light across the land of Helovia. It was almost unsettling, the dense silence that had spread over the marsh, but not for the young colt that had dared to trespass into its boundaries on this night.

The child of darkness picked his way through the murky, sloshing waters with ease, ears twitching about in alertness. He would have blended seamlessly beneath the shadows of the gnarled trees, but the colt's sides and muzzle glittered like the moon itself whenever her rays caressed his obsidian pelt. Such an appearance did not bother the young colt, however; if anything, the unusual trait would scare away any predators lingering in the far off darkness.

Mesec wasn't entirely certain what had coaxed him out of the Basin in the first place, and here to the marshes, of all places. Maybe he had simply grown bored of the same old faces, all the same strange looks he would receive by those blessed with only a horn growing from their forehead... In truth, the colt wasn't sure what to think of it all. So far, he so no reason to look on with disgust at those with wings at their sides, Pegasus; horns upon their brow, Unicorns; or those that were the most primitive among them; Equines. And then there was himself, the enigma, the one that had more than one of these qualities. Were there others like him, aside from his mother?

The thoughts could have gone on for hours, he supposed, but they disappeared in an instant. The sound of running, accompanied by the splashes of water and, shortly after, what sounded like heavier hoof beats thundering after prey. It was a most curious thing, and instead of coming to a halt, the colt picked up into a trot and headed for the edge of the treeline. It opened up into somewhat of a clearing, consisting mostly of what was a body of pungent water, and today, it would serve as the battleground for these two creatures.

One, a tawny doe, who held nothing but fear within her eyes; or, that's what he would have guessed, for he wasn't quite close enough to tell. The second was an equine, dark as the night itself, save for the strange contraption encompassing his face. It cast an eerie green glow upon the other stallion's face who, all of a sudden, seemed to change his demeanor completely and go bucking off in another direction. Within seconds, the innocent deer is grabbed by a set of unnerving jaws, and dragged into the depths of the waters below. The demigod gave a shudder as he watched the surface bubble for a moment, before it finally disappeared, and the water becomes placid once more.

For a moment, all that Mesec can do is look on with mild horror at what he'd just witnessed. If something so powerful lay beneath the dark water, just several yards away, then what could be within the trees where he stood? The divine child was quick to shake the thought from his head, lest the fear get to him and force him to run like a coward. After all, did he not have the ever watchful eyes of his mother upon him?

Now, his attention had returned to the black draft who had returned to the soggy shore. At his side stood a canine, who undoubtedly seemed to calm him. Mesec thought briefly about turning and walking back home to the Basin, but he felt the need to know what purpose the other had for being here. Drawing in a deep breath, the youngling stepped out from his cover, if his shining pelt had not already given him away, and he approached. Special attention was given to the murky pool that had claimed the deer, for Mesec made sure to round it at a distance he felt was comfortable, and safe.

As the space between them lessens, Mesec focuses pale, pupiless eyes upon the draft, as if gauging his reaction as to his sudden presence. Finally he drew to a halt, leaving a few yards between them, before he gathered the courage to speak. A demigod he may be, but he is still young. "I'm sorry if I've bothered you," he began, his eyes ever glued upon those blue of the other stallion's, "But might I ask... Just what that was all about?"

"blah blah blah."
