"Trespassing does not make good first impressions," said the white wraith moving up through the summer grasses, the earth thawed by the hot springs upon which their hidden vale resided. While the winter roared all year long outside their mountain fortress's walls, life thrived in their nook of the world, albeit a tad chillier than in the rest of Helovia. Mauja's black-rimmed ears flicked back once, listening, then up ahead. He didn't know particularly much of the Basin warrior, only that he'd trailed their little trespasser from the mountain pass and up to here. A white shape was visible against the sky, her keen eyes having followed the interloper and the warrior since the former set foot upon their home soil.. her ears having drunk in their words, shared her mind with Mauja's as his body had, on autopilot, picked out the familiar path to the hot springs. His voice had been rather cold, but not hostile; not caring what Naberious thought Mauja placed himself beside the painted stallion, peering down into the steaming, mineral waters and onto the shape lying there.

Really. Walk straight into a herdland, without noticing? Mauja kept the snort inside — the entire Basin smelled of their presence, the beaten paths testament to regular activity.. and he had, obliviously, walked straight in.

People had nearly died for less.

Though, Mauja had to admit, the boy had a rather pleasant face turned up to them, keeping a good expression despite the situation. So, either he was stupid, or in control. The Frostheart hoped for the latter, and flipped his ears forward with an expression of a curious blend — cold, certainly, because he did not appreciate finding strangers in the midst of his home, but also something which seemed intrigued.. interested. He wasn't sure he could stand having a territory-blind horse in the herd, but time would tell, though something about not immediately trying to kill the stranger made him feel oddly guilty, but he shoved it aside, not a single ripple of it visible in his eyes. Give me one good reason why I shouldn't drown you here and now, boy... he thought crankily, and set about to placing a handful of ice crystal in the water around their bathing trespasser, markedly dropping the temperature around him with a handful of degrees.

angels, they fell first, but I'm still here
