"Ma? Pa?" Her voice quaked with uncertainty as the timid filly stepped forward and meandered through the unfamiliar trees. "Where are you?" Now there was genuine fear, sorrow, and perhaps a hint of hopelessness. Eldrinn had not found her parents, nor heard them, since she had first woken up so many days ago in the threshold. She was a stranger in a strange land, alone and without comfort. With ivy eyes that swam with tears she pressed herself against one of the trees, feeling the force that flowed beneath its rough surface, and yet hearing nothing of the warm voices she ached for. "Ma! Pa!" She pleaded in a whisper as her head drooped and she peered out over this place. She did not know it, did not love it - how could she? - and wished for her parents most desperately. Ely, it was the smallest brush of a voice, a tiny tickle that made her lift her head and wonder if she had heard anything at all. Ely, we are always here, more of the whispers; Ely held her breath and closed her eyes and strained to hear more. A leaf fell and draped across her nose and finally she smiled. It was a bright smile, brilliant, and she curled around the trunk of the tree and murmured a silent thanks. They were here - that was all she needed - she was not alone. Now, all she needed was a friend... the dream, an enigma... silent |
