Lights, colors, orange, gold and crimson, shimmering pieces of sharp granite and the dazzling shards of every type of gemstone imaginable—such was the vista that Zikar-Sin chose to traverse, complete he was with his duties for his Haruspex. Sin remembered their voyage to the azure-hued Veins not too long ago; it was a wondrous time for many reasons, surely, but now Sin came back to survey this place on his own accord. They had passed this place—it was called the Heart of all of Helovia, was it not?—and Sin remembered the dazzling glow of the vermillion embers against the inky black of the night sky. Sin lingered on the memory sweetly, the feeling he had experienced twisting his gut now as he peeked over the rim of the crater. It was a primal sort of satisfaction, gazing at the cradle of this land, as though the pumping of Helovia’s lifeblood resonated with the cords and nerves within Sin’s body.

The heat was hellish, of course, though Sin steadfastly ignored such discomfort. It was nothing more than a noted observation in the back of his mind; the pit emanated heat, and as such, lava must be hot. Well, of course, Sin thought with a tiny chuckle, it’s a well-known fact that one must keep his hooves away from that crimson liquid. Though I wonder what conducts the heat? Is it the enormous friction generated by rapidly moving magma underneath the crust of the world? Can liquids generate static at all?

This was a brilliant time for Sin; he adored cognitive activities, those pastimes that tickled the innermost parts of his brain and made him fight for understanding, relevance, and intimate association. He could forget about all his troubles—admittedly, the dappled brute would be hard pressed to admit any troubling factor after his master had so well and truly cleared the path for his Disciple. Here, however, Sin was truly himself, embroiled in the very embodiment of his life’s passion: science.

After gazing into the cradle of fire and enduring the fiery winds that emanated from within for what seemed like hours, Sin decided it was time for him to tear his eyes from the spectacle and start making his way back toward the icy Basin where he knew he belonged. He couldn’t help his wandering, roving eye, however; the glittering jewels that lined the clay path he walked caught his attention, and Sin slowed his pace to one that was light and leisurely, enjoying the sight and reminiscing on that gorgeous piece of obsidian he had found not too long ago.

It seemed to be a day of vanity for sure.
