that I may love you

The ashen phantasma had all but abandoned the hope of finding her vernal young daughter. She had assumed the worst, for through all her restless seeking of even the slightest augury or sign of her aliveness, the pale amazon's efforts had turned up widely inauspicious. She had resolved that it was time to move on with her life, for such a ceaselessly recurring thing does not yield for anyone, not even for a mother who had failed at fulfilling her maternal obligation.

Times goes on, as does all things. The cycle of life and death would continue, as it would long after she was dead and whisked from the memories of those who tenanted the space she once occupied. The figurative clock of life keeps ticking, and it was unwise to dwell on lost causes. As heartless it may sound, she had finally come to grips with the fact that it quite possibly may be considered as such.

She still had some time left in the ever draining hourglass of her life, and she did not intend to waste it. So, with this mindset, she had decided to pursue the aroma of other horses to the mouth of Helovia, espoused with the theory that quite possibly some of her erstwhile comrades had found refuge here. Clinging desperately to that subtle prospect she proceeded onward, the scents growing in potency with she step she claimed.

Subdued sunlight lightly caressed her pale physique, still delicate and light as the day had begun to unfold. The evanescence of the morning mist, although dilute in density in the first place, had already come to pass. The sky was bent into an array of lustrous colors, and the achromatic colored mare kept her keen plum eyes fixed on the horizon - at least what she could she of it above the canopies of the trees.

Perhaps she could resume her life here; start out on a fresh slate. Oh how she yearned for the companionship of Paladin. She remained optimistic that he had managed to escape the fatal clutch of the ever-broadening shades. Surely he had. She wondered what had become of Crane, if he too had eluded the destruction of their home.

One could only hope.
